That post from yesterday - You Are Not an Artisan - I think this is what that author was talking about.

I would trade being an office drone at a hedge fund for making custom motorcycles any day of the week whether it's a high profile job or not.

But then either way I'd be employed so I guess either would be an improvent over my current joblessness.

What I guess I'm trying to say is, "Remember that artisan guy from yesterday? Fuck that guy."

Holy wow - my roommate's way into this scene in town and knows a bunch of its people. Needless to say I know what HE'LL be watching tonight.

PS, the neat smiley face up on Thor's garage wall (near the beginning, before you hit Play) is the logo for See See, a motorcycle / coffee shop in town... which I guess you find out by hitting Play, but to see it up there was kind of cool.

I think this film is the highwater mark for custom motorcycle films.

But notice that this is not a film, it is a complex interactive site (using no flash) that incorporates html5 video among many other elements.

(I'll have to come back to geek out about some of the implementation details later - it was made by some co-workers of mine, I did a very small piece of the backend work, nothing you would notice actually viewing the site other than maybe indirectly via load times)

As I understand it Thor is also behind The One Motorcycle Show in PDX. (And now Austin apparently) One of the best custom shows in the country with a real appreciation of a wide variety of bikes. Well worth catching if you have any like of things moto.

The bike built in this interactive video site was featured at the One Show.

The current mania for customizing everything on two wheels makes me very happy to be living in the here and now.

I wish portland had so many " custom hogs " buzzing around town they would change the name to Porkland. Also they need to make the exhaust much louder so they wake small infants up and people have to wear headphones to communicate like on aircraft carriers. If these bike builders would take themselves more seriously we could use some of that know how to solve the energy crisis.
