Credible Likeable Superstar Role Model!

Catherine Bennett is a Credible Likeable Superstar Role Model. Taking time out from her work as a palaeontologist, Bennett has released two songs to date: debut single Apathy and a follow-up, Animal Kingdom.

Catherine Bennett isn’t quite real, though: she’s the creation of a nine-year-old girl called Taylor and played by Taylor’s aunt, performance artist Bryony Kimmings.

In her role as Bennet's manager, Taylor is responsible for the artist's look, musical direction–"songs sung by Lily Allen, written by the B-52s and produced by Gorillaz"–lyrics and biography (Ms. Bennett loves tuna pasta, goes out with a proofreader from Sri Lanka called Matthew, and grows veg on her allotment with help from best friend Chelsea, a midwife).

Fans include Yoko Ono, who invited Taylor to introduce her project during a session on activism at Meltdown.

Via Woman’s Hour, which ran a ten minute interview with Taylor and Kimmings this morning.

My kids both loved the videos. I really hope that the first video was an intentional play on Thriller...
