I was wondering if that is a bomb or drug pig, cuz thats adorable. I think it would take some of the sting out of getting busted to have that cute lil guy snuffling at your belongings, but that is just me.

So this one isn't by definition a selfie (as were many more but this is the first one I noticed) but I am so glad it is included, though it seems like a seriously bad idea if I'm reading the picture right.

I mean, entertaining for me, but possible bad idea for the kids involved.

It's a tiny shithole in Alabama with a recording studio that got mentioned in a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, not exactly the stuff of household names.

In grad school (Northeast US) I had a Professor who was from Alabama. She was in her 40's and had a very faint accent. It was a seminar, only about 8 eight students in the class, one of whom it turned out was also from Alabama. Early in the semester one day, before class began, another student asked this guy about his accent and he laughed and said something like, "Me and Dr. So-and-so are both from Alabama, bet you couldn't tell that, huh? Only difference is, my accent is from the big city and hers is a hillbilly accent." Well, of course she had entered the classroom already and heard the whole thing. She turned crimson. The guy tried to explain but she cut him off. He did not have much to say for the rest of the semester.

As we've seen on countless "your favorite band sucks" threads, this, as all sets of music fans, is but a set of MeFites. The fact still reamins that Muscle Shoals is but a one-horse town in a remote corner of Alabama that happened to have a studio. It could have been anywhere.

I thought about saying something but all I had was "outside of the whole 'cop in uniform' thing, this is VERY relevant to my interests" -- and since I expect others to not be grossly sexual, I feel like what's good for the gay gander should be good for the... yeah, I just didn't have anything to add.

I know a lot of police departments in the Northeast US have strict gender-neutral policies about hair length and jewelry.

Your hair can be any length you like, but while on-duty, it has to be tied up in a bun. Cops are not allowed to wear earrings or any other face piercings while on-duty. Not sure about tongue piercings.

The uniform can be so drab and blah day-after-day so I can understand someone who wanted to add some color to her presentation like this officer.

I do wonder if she was going off-duty and added the earrings/ear piercing and let her hair down for the photo or if her department does not have such strict policies regarding hair/jewelry.

mlis- if I had to guess, I'd wager that piercings are disallowed to keep them from being yanked out in an altercation. The NYPD wears clip on ties for similar reasons-to prevent being strangled. (That last bit of info courtesy of Edward Conlon's book Blue Blood).

I was in the London the other week and at King's Cross Station a smiling Muslim tourist (I presume) in full hijab had managed to persuade two of the British Transport Policemen (who are now armed with AR-15 carbines) to pose next to them so their partner could take a photograph. One of the coppers just looked so incredibly uncomfortable with the situation I wished I'd had a camera ready myself

Straight from high school to police academy, yeah. We occasionally see cops that are barely old enough to drink, especially in places that don't pay police particularly well. I liked this blog but I am such an old I spent most of the day thinking it had only seven photos because I couldn't see the "Older" link in its small blue-on-purple location.

Or to borrow a phrase from our own mythbuster: I reject your version of reality, and choose to insert my own. In mine, no respectable news outlet used the word "selfie". Nor are grandfathers broadcasting from their bathrooms. My reality is much nicer. Join me. :)
