When you think of Berlin, you think of Cold War thrillers, the Wall, Cabaret and reggea? You do if you know about Seeed, Berlin's finest reggea/dancehall/hiphop music group. What finer way to unwind on a Tuesday evening than with a few of their best songs, like their first hit, Dickes B, an ode to their hometown or perhaps Aufstehn (featuring Ceelo Green), Ding, Music Monks, Wonderful Life or Augenbling are more your style.

If not, there's always lead singer's Peter Fox's solo work (with a little help from the Cold Steel drumline) : Schwarz zu Blau, Haus am See, Lok auf zwei Beinen and Alles Neu (classical music buffs will recognise Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony; UK hiphop fans will also realise Plan B sampled this for Ill Manors(previously)).

A friend of mine pointed me at the video for Augenbling and it totally rocked my world and had me doing the chair dance while I watched it.

Peter Fox's "Live Aus Berlin" DVD was the last thing I bought from an overseas dealer... totally great stuff, even though I barely speak German. Here's an awesome clip of "Schwarz zu Blau".

This is not a snark but a genuine question: is "reggea" a misspelling, or an ungoogleable, unusually-spelled German underground phenomenon?

Obviously the latter.

I figured this guy was saying some crazy shit so I looked up Alles Neu translation and this is the first line:

burned my studio down and snorted the ashes like coke.I slay my goldfish, bury him on the courtyard.

Killed his own goldfish.

I just had that Peter Fox album on during dinner the other night, hadn't played it in at least two years. Totally forgot how great it is. This Schwarz zu Blau video is amazing, it was always my favorite track but I had no idea there was a video.

Love, love, love Seeed. They put on an amazing live show. I saw them play in Mauerpark in 2001, so fabulous.

I guess it's not well-known that Berlin has had a very lively reggae scene for many years.

Saw them live in 2006, they were awesome then too. I was so excited when I discovered a few years ago that Peter Fox had solo work out too.

I was hoping Cee-Lo would at least try to sing in German. Aww. Challenge declined!

Seeed is very popular in our car/house as well. The other day I was asked to explain "Waste My Time" to my 10 yo son, because that's his favourite song (I think it's pretty good as well - maybe not for kids). Seeed does lots of great stuff with very inventive takes on Heavy Metal and Hip Hop, and their songs are very well produced. But they have also come out with some embarrassing drivel that will rot your brain.

Love Seeed! Going to see them in Wühlheide next week!

This video of football pundit Jürgen Klopp synched to "Ding" gives me the giggles every time.

Nice to see German hiphop getting some well-deserved props! Seeed always reminds me of Emanuela by Fettes Brot; probably mostly because I had Dancehall Cabelleros nestled right up next to it in my grad school mixlist.

Okay Seeed rocked tonnes better than I was even expecting, but the stars were their guests North Carolina Cold Steel Drumline. Just staggering
