This better not be about those plastic bottle windows.

It's pretty cool indeed. An implementation of this in the Phillipines was reported by The Guardian in 2011 here. And for anyone thinking "why don't they just put windows in some walls"... the "houses" are "glued" to each other so that's not possible. Most of the time the front wall barely has space for a standard-size door let alone a window (and there is the problem of allowing rain in, etc).

I remember I was puzzled how people would have trouble with lighting up a room in these countries when there is so much sunlight. Then it downed on me that these "houses" are more like caves than anything else.

That's awesome! I was certain the invention here would be 'fire' but the actual answer - midichlorians - is even better!

I'd heard of this before, so what caught the eye more about this BBC version of the story was the sub/headline writer's apparent surprise that someone might come up with something neat and not want to monetise it. O tempora o mores, etc.

Props to anyone who comes up with a comment that's not substantially the same as one in the previous thread linked to by Pruitt-Igoe. Still a double.

Deck prisms were the first thing I thought of too. This is cool.
