Much improved. More soulful. The original sounds like The Chimpmunks now.

This version makes it a lot easier to hear just how much Dolly inflects into every syllable.
Like the lady says, it costs a lot of money to look that cheap.
She's one of the best in the business.

Here is a version that's been slowed, and pitch-corrected.

I first heard this in a Plunderphonics seminar by John Oswald back in the 80's.
Of course the 33/45 shift goes back to the introduction of 33 rpm. If you tube had a button that would drop the speed and pitch by this percentage I would use it often.

I love the original version, Dolly Parton has always been more than the sun of her caricatured parts. This version is also great.
Autocorrect turns her name into Fully Passion.

I meant to add, one of my friends was obsessed with this song at one point, and made a double-mix-CD of covers of it. His genre notes for each song include "Japanese dance", "Ambient", "bluegrass", "hair metal", "Finnish metal", and "Diva, live, awful".

This is begging to be used in a sad montage full of lonely rural landscapes.

The first version of this song I ever heard is the cover by Susanna & The Magic Orchestra so slow and low sounds right to me.

So, Dolly Parton is apparently Cher on a double espresso... if Cher could pick a fantastic song to feed to the hit machine and resist the urge to hump battleships in her videos.

I like playing this game. My soundcloud page has six pieces played at the wrong speed, so far:
Paul Simon's "Gumboots" played 25% slower
Cocteau Twins' "Suckling the Mender" played 1.5x faster
Olivia Newton-John's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" slowed down approximately 30%
Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You", played eight semitones lower in pitch
Red House Painters' "Evil", played twice as fast without changing pitch
Karen Dalton's "Are You Leaving for the Country", played 25.9% slower.

The Miley Cyrus cover is surprisingly good. No, really. Laura Marling with Mumford and Sons is also pretty good.

Here's Peter Visti's majestic disco edit of Jolene, called "Dolly", played slow and low. I was a little obsessed with this in 2007.

That Miley Cyrus cover is damn good. She's not just singing, she's interpreting, and she's not half-bad at it either.
What a pleasant surprise! Thanks, Ghostride The Whip!
