Just when you thought the "smashing hard drives in the basement" story couldn't get stranger. A spokesman for UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg confirms that the order to raid the Guardian came from the very top. The questions now: what does it mean for journalism in the United Kingdom if the PM and Deputy PM can order suppression of specific news outlets? And does the British government really think it can quash leaks by physically destroying equipment?
