Well, that was a bad link I didn't double-check. Mea maxima culpa! Should go to here.

There's, like, a reason he was a poet laureate.

THE OBVIOUS, NATURAL NEED TO BE SEXUAL BEINGS HAS DIRECTLY CLASHED WITH OUR PURITANICAL CULTURE AND THUS WE EMPTY ALL OF OUR PROPER ART OF ANY KIND OF MEANINGFUL SEX, DROP VACANT SEX CASUALLY INTO OUR ADVERTISING, AND THEN PUT THE MOST VACUOUS, VIOLENT AND GENDER-DETRIMENTAL PORNOGRAPHY OUT THERE FOR THE MODES OF ACTUAL AROUSAL. AND HULK ARGUES THIS ACTUALLY SUCKS FOR EVERYONE, MEN INCLUDED.

I love this schtick, but holy crap the all-caps presentation is hard to read.

That's the entire schtick!

One good option for dealing with the all-caps is copying-and-pasting the whole thing into Convert Case. It makes the article much more readable.

That's the entire schtick!

But it's not. It's just obnoxious.

It's not even classic "Hulk speak". He's using normal English just in all caps.

If he's going to drop the Hulk style, then he needs to stop writing in all caps.

I agree that the schtick could use some work, actually. There's more to Hulk-speak than just referring to himself in third-person. If that and writing in all caps is all he does, then there's really not much entertainment value to his "style."

Also, the Hulk puts together a reading list, and with all those books there's ONE goddamn graphic novel? I call bullshit.

Yeah, I really don't get the point of the ALL CAPS. He comes across as someone who has heard of the Hulk but never actually read a Hulk comic book.

Scroll down on this page for a Greasemonkey script to transform Film Critic Hulk into Film Critic Banner.

(Install the Fix Caps script, then go to Tools>Greasemonkey>Manage User Scripts and click the [Options] button for the fixcaps script. Add http://filmcrithulk.wordpress.com/* and any other ALLCAPS webpages that bother you, such as the FPP: http://badassdigest.com/2013/08/29/hulks-essential-reading-list-136-great-books-for-your-eyeballs/ then reload and let Banner do the talking.)

I suppose he gets more total attention with the ALL CAPS shtick, but I can't help thinking he'd have more total people actually read what he writes if he used lower case.

Forget the argument about ALL CAPS, the list(s) at the link are interesting, and I am glad that this link itself was posted to MetaFilter. Neat stuff.

Oh, it's a fantastic and interesting list, but that's exactly what makes the shtick so sad. It is guaranteed to derail discussions from content to the presentation.

The author has some great choices and great commentary and I wish they would rest on that strength instead of a gimmick that just hurts everyone.

Why would anyone waste time on reading in order to write a movie? There's TV Tropes and The Hero's Journey- that's all one needed these days to make a blockbuster movie.

I counted at least two comic books.

I would encourage Hulk to read some William Carlos Williams.

126/136 i love lists like this because they make me feel so accomplished, but i also hate them because the only thing i've accomplished is reading a bunch of books and in the end that's nothing. also, it would be nice if he left some capital letters for the rest of us.

I think people who are regular readers of Film Crit Hulk understand the all-caps-ness. Someone I know sent me this gem by Film Crit Hulk on spoilers and the 4 levels of how we consume art. It's really long so I was all ehh I'll read it later. Now I share it here with you.

Later I read it (in all caps and everything #hardcore) and this person's stuff is really good. In other words it's worth it. (But ehh I'll read this list later..)

HULK SMASH ICEBOX!

I think it's a well thought out list with some great choices. I like that one of the "books" is the complete works of Shakespeare and another is A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. I agree with him that Sweet Thursday needs Cannery Row and Tortilla Flat. There may be some in here that I disagree with, but you can tell that he's a reader and that he has a particular fondness for these books. I found several things here that will be going on the pile.

On every post about Film Critic Hulk there are voices calling out for the omission of his gimmicky-looking all-caps-style in the sake of readability. And i totally get where you boys and girls are coming from - except after reading quite a few of his posts/essays I think the all caps are actually helping instead of hindering. It slows you down, it makes you read more carefully. And this while doing the "un-hulk'y thing" of keeping the grammar largely intact and his diction concise amounts to paramount writing on movies, storytelling, characterization and "life stuff" beyond. Something I gladly invest more time into, instead of just glancing over.

But this is my totally personal opinion as a non-native speaker (which might play some part in it, as well).

Long story short: give the all caps a shot, maybe you'll get used to it. If they still annoy you, use one of these browser plugins to lowercase, but don't pass on Hulk as a whole simply because of that.
He seriously knows his shit.

OKAY HULK DOESN'T SPEAK MIDDLE FRENCH SO THAT WAS A JOKE.

The Hulk-lite all-caps third person thing was all worth it for that moment.
