This post was deleted for the following reason: Breathless network news bit isn't super great post material, maybe if there's something more substantial out there about the phenomenon (and to what degree it is a phenomenon) there's a meatier post someone could put together. -- cortex

It's really not that creative. Unattended property gets taken. Where's the creativity in that? It's not exactly an art heist.

So it's not the default choice to get in your car, lock all the doors, start your engine, and only unlock the doors you need to use to get in and out when needed?

I know that I've seen people make a big deal about locking their car doors if they're driving through a "bad" area, which means they leave them unlocked by default. Are people scared of being accidentally locked in their cars after a collision, the same way some people are afraid of being trapped by their seat-belt?

Once I had kids I couldn't bother with a purse anymore and just keep everything in my pockets. This video does make me miss the days when my late, great, 110-pound dog used to ride along in the back seat, though. That would have been a disincentive, I think.

This is why I use the Trash Defense Field.

Like many useful possessions, the TDF requires maintenance. Not all trash is eligible for TDF usage, particularly anything that rots.

Occasionally the TDF must be depleted so people can safely enter the car. Do not underestimate the power of the TDF.

That looks like a dog worth stealing. Leave the kid in the back and you're safe as houses though.
