I once had a Doctorate of Theatre Arts explain to me how South Park: The Movie was a classic American Musical, adhering strictly to a form and formula, both musically and in terms of plot. Yes, we were both drunk.

That's not the liquor speaking. South Park: The Movie is a damned good musical. Steven Sondheim has said on several occasions that it's his favorite musical, in fact.

Seconding Rory. Say what you will about Stone and Parker, but they clearly love musicals and know how to write a good one themselves.

Oh man, watching this reminds me of how excellent South Park was for its first, oh, seven or nine seasons. The early stuff especially was gold--so weird, so frenetic, so enjoyable.

They've gone insanely downhill in recent years, but it's definitely not a show where I look back and wonder what the hell everybody was smoking. South Park not only changed what was and wasn't acceptable on TV, it was an influence on basically every animator on the Internet that wanted to make a series of their own, and on a lot of online comic writers as well. For all the nastiness and questionable messages, it was a hell of a show.

(Wonder if they'll be playing the censored Muhammad episodes...)

I love this.
South Park, while it can be as dumb and a tonne of bricks, and also be the smartest thing on TV when then get on the money.

The Obama Wins episode is one of the most mindblowing things I have seen live on TV.

After seeing The Book of Mormon, I can't favorite this enough. The South Park stuff was just a warmup.

South Park: The Movie is a damned good musical.

It really deserved the Oscar that year. Screw Tarzan.

I'm a Phil Collins fan and even I thought they were robbed that year.
