So how come it doesn't show nothin' until I click on the HyperX link? And how come that little thing blows up when you maximize it? Is it my machine? Goddamn teeny tiny blogger fonts... posted by y2karl at 6:04 PM on December 18, 2001
Show's how most people have pretty much swallowed the K-12 version of history.
In his own words, sept. 1858 - Charleston, Illinois;
"I will say, then, that I am not, nor have ever been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races(applause); that I am not, nor have ever been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people....
And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."
Lincoln was able to create common cause among the lower classes while being politically cautious. Just like polititions today, he said the right things to the right people and all along looked out for the business interests.
In a candid statement he might say, "Thank god we're still in power." posted by a_green_man at 6:19 PM on December 18, 2001

I think the problem is that the text you see is actually a link, but it isn't obvious since there is no link decoration and the text color is just normal black. The link pops up a little window, and you have to click through a couple of images in that window to get to the actual entries. Really bad interface. However, Michael Williams entry is damn funny stuff. posted by willnot at 8:11 PM on December 18, 2001

Scratching head. I was hoping for a lot more. Based on the link and the effort involved in the layout, I was hoping for a straight take, and nearly all of it was ironic and/or sophomoric. It's always easy to criticize, but the idea seems to have promise not borne out here - Or maybe I just need to lightern up. posted by kokogiak at 10:40 PM on December 18, 2001
Erm, "lighten" up that is, and yes - that may be the answer as I re-read mathowie's description and note the 'amusing' bit I seem to have screened out on first glance. posted by kokogiak at 10:44 PM on December 18, 2001
