Yes, but how can I eat MORE without noticing?

Speaking from experience: eat while watching TV.

And/or while intoxicated.

I find when I'm eating rotisserie chicken over the sink, it helps to use a smaller sink.

For real though, I think smaller dishes makes a HUGE difference. Tell yourself you can have seconds and just use a smaller dish. I'm not saying it will always work for everyone... but I find my laziness prevents me from getting a second serving most of the time, so I'm less tricked by the sight of the smaller dish, I'm tricked by the distance to the kitchen.

Why are people so obsessed with eating less? Our bodies are more complicated than a simple calories in/calories out equation. I truly don't see why people cling to this delusion like it's their religion. Is it self hatred? Don't people want to eat more and lose weight and be healthier? Or is healthy food so awful, that it's better to make yourself fat and sick and hungry to avoid it?

I want to eat less because I want to look pretty in clothes and I don't like to exercise.

Does that help?

Points 1 (use smaller plates!) and 4 (use taller glasses!) seem to contradict each other. It's like the author (or the authors of whatever diet books first suggested them) skimmed an article about Piaget's conservation test and went with it without giving it much thought.

First of all, are you under six? If not, then those tricks probably won't work.

(Personally, smaller dishes just make it look like not enough, warranting a trip for seconds, which also looks like not enough...)

Second, use taller glasses? Not taller and thinner, just taller? Um, taller glasses seem to hold more because they usually do.

Don't people want to eat more and lose weight and be healthier?

I understand that if my diet consists almost entirely of fresh fruit and vegetables, I can consume huge portions that will totally fill me up and meet my nutritional needs, without attendant weight gain. The thing is, I often feel like junk food. I know what's good for me; I choose otherwise. The mind, like the body, is a complicated thing. So I resort to tricks to curb the amount of unhealthy food I feed myself.
