Do you folks like coffee

In a move eerily reminiscent of Dethklok's performance of the Duncan Hines Coffee Jingle (albeit at the opposite pole), Metallica will be performing in Antarctica. Just as the fictional death metal band partnered with a fictional coffee brand, Metallica bring their increasingly cartoonish presence to an audience "...of fans from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico who enter a contest through Coca-Cola Zero." Oddly, the band will be performing inside a dome on the Carlini Argentine Base with no amplification, and the performance will be transmitted to fans through headphones.

For added irony, both James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett voiced fans on the first episode of Metalocalypse, which featured the cartoon band performing above the Arctic Circle.

Ridiculous, but if I were them, I'd do it.

What does no amplification mean? Acoustic or that they're going to play direct through amp modelers?

And if you want to know how to play that sweet Duncan Hines jingle solo, here's hung over Skwisgaar to walk you through it.

"But the truth is, no, you're not. You're a liar. Go homes. Takes a shower. Wash the shames off of you."

Awesome in a way but I would prefer that they would spend some time having someone with a functioning set of ears remaster the brickwalled earbleed festival that was the last two albums and DEFINITELY the sonic train wreck that was ...and Justice for All, which still tops my list as one of the most poorly recorded great albums evah.

Yeah I am really confused about the no amplification thing too.

Metallica previously previously above the Arctic Circle themselves in Tuktoyaktuk

This must set a record for widest range of latitudes played.

I am assuming there are research stations in the vicinity - not to mention sensitive wildlife - that would not appreciate the seismic interference of an aged metal band's soda-based publicity stunt.

Alternately, they don't want to anger The Thing or that X-Files UFO.

No amplification? Will they be playing grandpa's guitars?

When will we stop doing things just because we can do them?

There are just so, so many posts on MeFi where this is the most appropriate response!

Hopefully that dome will have a big stick holding it up that some one can kick it out thus trapping Metallica inside forever.

Silly, no man-made dome could contain their collective ego!
