Kuro5hin's xmas gift to the EFF. Rusty and the gang over at k5 have decided to donate all their site's income to the Electronic Frontier Foundation from now until midnight, December 25th. The EFF fights for high profile cases like Dmitry, but also to protect the rights of everyday citizens.

What a great idea on the part of K5 and its supporters. EFF has been around a long time and never sold out.

quonsar: Not much. I had hoped to get some attention by spreading around word of this, and convince some people to give just for this purpose. I'm depressed and disgusted by the low turnout so far.

Maybe it's just because it's Sunday. We'll see if it picks up tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I have discovered the one sure-fire way to kill all conversation on MeFi: mention Kuro5hin. It's amazing, everyone just shuts right up. Useful to keep in mind when things get out of hand.

Yeah. It seems like fairly few people are online this weekend, and those that are aren't spending much time (online).

that's probably just because K5 doesn't have any of those stupid quizzes, pictures of pancakes or ponies or monkeys, or zany auctions, and isn't published by that notorious kottke person (whoever he is).

Heh. On reconsidering, "disgusted" is too strong. I was hoping for more of an immediate reaction, but server stats do show that today has been among the slowest of days all year. I clearly picked a great time for the big announcement. :-)

We do apparently need more pancakes though.

Rusty, perhaps you should consider doing it as a New Year's Resolution-type thing too? I too have noticed things are very slow online. Seems like people have unplugged and are having lives or something weird like that.

Yeah, I may extend it some and do something like that. Everything from the 23-25 will go, cause that was the original deal. I was going to throw in a couple hundred myself anyway.

Well. Key lesson learned about publicity. At this rate, I'll have made all the mistakes there are to make by the time I'm 30. Then I'll be unstoppable. :-)

Best wait 'til 40, rusty. Trust me on this one.
