ShapeWright Ship will take your name (or really any string of text) and generate a 3D model of a spaceship based on it.

From a certain angle, my ship seems, ah, a bit... excited.

Wait, that doesn't look anything like the Enterprise.

The Space Cruiser jquinby looks like the offspring of an X-wing and a Klingon Bird of Prey

I'm a bit let down. The good ship brundlefly is kind of bland.

The BlueJayWay has a remarkably, well, remarkable arc of fire.

I find the generator's insistence on Bilateral Symmetry somewhat limiting, but at least it comes with a bottle opener.

I'm diggin' the catwalk.

Seems pretty random, just using the name as a seed. Names that differ by only one letter produce utterly different ships.

Still lots of fun. Don't miss the little round buttons on the right that let you see the ship in blue or black.

The Laura doesn't look like I was expecting.

Now I will go tear up.

Thing is, the initials db actually look more like a spaceship (and maybe other things) than the spaceship looked like the initials.

Contrary to its name, the good ship Strange Interlude turned out to be pretty much a classic design in the Rebel Blockade Runner mold.

On the other hand, the aptly-christened HMS Omnishambles looks like the lower half of a priapic Optimus Prime.

Interesting. You get different ships depending on whether you capitalize or not.

I used to play in a D20 future space game where our ship was named Unreported Source of Income (vaguely ripped off something mentioned in a Culture book) and lo, the Unreported Source of Income looks pretty awesome. Kind of like the ship in the game.

Sweet, it lets you download the .wrl file, which you can use in Blender.

I should just make a space game out of these.

The Culture ship names that I've tried all look like they might be reasonable compared to the Mojojojo. :(

I had to. Reminds me of the T-Rex with shoulder lasers I met while drinking a cup of decaf at Starbucks.

Ah. So that's what GSV The Infuriating Fragility Of Life In A Pre-Contact Civilisation looks like. Stumpier than I thought.

Unsurprisingly, the ROU Xenophobe is cool, although smaller than I always imagined. (Either with or without the underscore.)

adding Ambient Occlusion makes them look pretty badass.

If I didn't have to drive for 12 hours tomorrow I'd throw some textures together for one too.

Doh! I just now noticed the moving stars in the background which give you a cue for which end of the ship is the front.

My daughter's ship has a huge fuck-off gun on the front, and my son's looks like a folded-up recognizer from Tron. mine resembles something from Super Scope 6.

The Canada looks more like a space station than a starship, which is appropriate enough I suppose.

Voltron has the ungainly look of a spaceship that forms the pelvis or shoulders of a robot when it joins up with other spaceships. Optimus Prime totally looks like it could transform into a robot. Quite a few of these spaceships look like a giant gun, but, sadly, Megatron is not one of them, although it looks a bit like the tank he sometimes transforms into. Galvatron, on the other hand, looks much more like a gun on a tripod.
