This is from The Elegant Gentleman's Guide to Knife Fighting, which is not everyone's taste but is to mine. YouTube playlist for more of the show here.

This post is indeed a model. If only it had cat videos, it would actually stay on the front page.

Hilarious. I <3 raspberries.

The digestive blouse, not so much.

Terry Gilliam should sue.

That is fucking fantastic. I have to figure out a way to have just the ending as its own video for my 5-year-old.

Obviously the finale is the best thing ever, but it's kind of unfortunate that it kicks off with the weakest one. You'd think they'd start it out with one of the better ones instead.

If you like this, you need scorpion dagger (previously)

If you don't like this, you will also not enjoy Barnacle Bill's Semi-Factual Tales, which involves at least one of these hooligans.

I don't appreciate the link to the guy getting stabbed in the head. No one else seems to mind, so I'm clearly in the minority. But it would have been great to not see that. :-(

No, I'm with you popechunk: the American Gothic one was really off-putting and felt very out of place compared to the awesome whimsy of the rest.
posted by ook at 7:42 AM on November 7, 2013 [2 favorites]

As well, the American Gothic shows a father and daughter discussing the father's sexual dysfunction. Incest is hilarious, amirite?
posted by ricochet biscuit at 7:49 AM on November 7, 2013

naw, i'm with you popechunk. Like ook, I found it off-putting and did not watch past it because slapstick death only interests me when it's Peter Jackson and orcs (or possibly Peter Jackson and zombies).
posted by crush-onastick at 7:52 AM on November 7, 2013

Mr biscuit, I was unaware that they were father/daughter, sorry, and I never claimed that the video was hilarious. I didn't mean to completely derail this, sorry.

Huh?
Grant Wood used his his sister and dentist as models. Where do you get father/daughter? They look like husband and wife to me. Projecting? Or am I missing something.

My dentist has stabbed me in the head tons of times. Usually in the part of my head that is my mouth. Sometimes it seems like he thinks that's his job. What's good for the goose, I say.

You should, the rest is really quite good.

Wood never made it explicit, but his sister Nan (one of the models) has always maintained it was father and daughter. I am also going on what the Art Institute of Chicago, which actually has the painting, has written:

American Gothic depicts a farmer and his spinster daughter posing before their house, whose gabled window and tracery...

Well, next time I'm at a gallery of any renown looking at a painting of someone kissing someone else anywhere but the mouth, I'll know what the people next to me are giggling about.

And by "people next to me", I of course mean myself.

I had always assumed them to be husband and wife as well, but I just came across this letter from Grant Wood in which he also asserts that the subjects of his painting are father and daughter.
posted by Lame_username at 9:18 AM on November 7, 2013

The plot thickens. Apparently, he wrote in 1933 that he "envisioned the pair as husband and wife" and later changed his story due to controversy. I plan to return to my previous belief that they were originally intended as husband and wife.

Not much offends me in life. Cross training was the exception that proves the rule. First, the obvious reason. Second, for anyone who was executed in that fashion, it is a most excruciatingly painful and long drawn out way to die. NOT funny at all.
