The Fall of the House of Moon

Jesus, Buddha, Hitler, and Stalin had been “reborn as new persons” through his teachings

If they didn't promptly walk into a bar, that wastes a potentially epic joke.

Wow, what a strange story.

A self-aggrandizing anti-communist wife-beater? Somewhere there's a universe where Moon and Ayn Rand joined forces. I'm staying far the hell away from it.

As a sidebar, there was an interesting episode of Strangers recently about a young couple who were raised in the Unification Church.

Bias note: I'm the show's music supervisor.

Her father [Moon] had come to the United States from Korea nearly 40 years earlier, aiming to “subjugate” America as the first phase in a plan to establish a new world order. Moon had gone on to amass extraordinary political influence, building a vast network of powerful right-wing organizations and forging alliances with every Republican presidential administration since Ronald Reagan’s.
America's Family Values and America First Crowd ought to be proud of what they helped Moon accomplish. What could be more patriotic than cozying up to foreign billionaires who openly plot to subjugate America?

America, love it or subjugate it, I always say.

Kind of shitty how they put the Bidens in the title like there's some big conspiracy to be revealed. Then it turns out that it was little more than a poorly made business decision and had basically nothing to do with the cult, while Dennis Hastert giving a speech at that loontastic "kingdom kickoff" barely gets a WTF. Anything to pull in the eyeballs, I guess.

This video is something. Mrs Moon makes a grand entrance around 1:10 (that's one hour and ten minutes, mind.)

As someone who had to wade through every recording of the Unification hymns, I must say I don't envy you...

Mefi's own John Goren is responsible for breaking the senate office crowning ceremony story.

I'm somewhat disappointed that the anthem wasn't written by Credence.

Bit rot has hit the original MeFi article, at least the link to the first important picture, which is not now available at
gorenfeld.net/blog//2004_05_01_barchive.html#108362997653753669

(Moderators please note, the above is not a link. It wouldn't be even if it were hidden behind a clickable word; it's in clear text in hope someone will recognize it and know how to find what should be there)

This is one of the most captivating things I've read in a very long time. The whole article is completely fascinating.
