Wow. That was seriously good. Those old Enfields are beautiful brutes. The mechanic nailed it when he compared modern design with the old industrial aesthetic. Modern bikes are faster, cheaper, and more reliable, but they're missing the simple solidity of the mid-century bikes.

I am always happy to see a sidecar hack on a motorcycle. RE's have always been sidecar friendly. Just found out you can tour the factory too.
Nice find.

Enfields have filled an unlikely void in the world of adventure touring motorcycles. Alex Chacon, a videographer for GoPro, recently rode an Enfield to Ladakh which is the highest inhabited region in the world. Years before (before the invention of the GoPro), Gaurav Jani made a similar journey and film while riding solo and lugging massive camera batteries.

Nice find, thanks for posting this. Great thumping sounding charismatic bike. Reminded me of being in India about 20 years ago, Ladakh, Goa, etc., lots of Enfields being ridden around by foreigners.

My friend Don and his friend Peter are about to do a charity ride through Asia on two of these. Don's already done a heap of touring on his. They're utterly splendid - there is no sound quite like that of a 500cc single cylinder engine.

This guide to running-in a new Bullet should be mandatory reading for anybody who owns a newly manufactured engine of any sort, even though modern engine designs can be and are made to far closer tolerances than the venerable Enfield motor.

Could have done without the cock fighting interlude but everything else was superb. Thanks for posting this.
