A duct tape wedding Sorta like the Rose Bowl, only with duct tape instead of flowers, people instead of floats and marriage instead of a parade connected to a foodball game.

technically, it can be called duct or duck tape. either way, it works. it was originally made by the army or some military branch...possibly for aquatic stuff, hence the name duck tape. and i think we can all figure out the duct part.

There's a semi-cultish public TV comedy program in Minnesota called "Red Green." The title character is a daft guy who wears a lot of hunter-orange plaid and looks vacant much of the time. But he's had at least one great line: "Nothing says poor workmanship like lumpy duct tape."

Only according to The Duck Tape Guys, who apparently have registered the trademark Duck Tape.

The term 'duck tape' sounds as if it were made up by workers who don't know the word 'duct' -- guys who don't realize that the word for an enclosure that conducts air is not the same as the word for the animal that quacks.

Can anyone find 'duck tape' in any real dictionary?

I can't find duck tape in any dictionary, real or strange.

From the above link. Note: To be legally called “Duct Tape” the tape must meet or exceed certain heat requirements. Some Duck brand Tapes do meet this classification and will tell you so on their label.

So, duck tape isn't duct tape...at least not always. Now, I can sleep.

You gotta give those tape guys credit for knowing their tape history and lingo, though. May the tape be with you, too, Jim and Tim, the Duct Tape Guys!

Last year, Duck Tape brand duct tape held a contest for young couples to design their promwear with the tape. There were hundreds of entries on their website, and visitors got to vote on their favourites. I was rather impressed with the creative design work that some of the young people did, but there was college scholarship money for the winners, so going all out was worth it. One girl made a singularly ridiculous Duck Tape version of Bjork's infamous Swan Dress which should've won something -- beyond disrespect -- just for the inherent pun.

And sexymofo, who calls it WV chrome?

Duck tape is part of Henkel Consumer sealents who also own the Unibond brand and the 'No more...' range of stuff (no more nails, no more sealent guns etc.).

why do I know all of this? Because both Duck Tape™ and Unibond sponser my rugby team, Saracens, with all the promotional rolls we get we're never short of a bit of tape.

It is good stuff even if it does smack of the 'Kwick-E-Mart' style of trademarking.
