You won't believe what happened when this woman reported being harassed at long running Boston science fiction convention Arisia. Because Arisia has a clear harassment policy they acted quickly to ban her harasser and once it turned out that was not an isolated incident on his part as other people came forward, other Boston cons followed their lead.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Glad con policies are improving, glad the specific harassment got dealt with here, not really feeling like someone's thrice-linked name-and-shame LJ writeup is really all that good of a basis for a Metafilter post. -- cortex

My hunch is that ConncectiCon (from the "follwed their lead" link) is probably a Connecticut con as opposed to a Boston one....

But yeah, this is a fantastic story.

I will believe what happened. I did believe what happened. I am capable of belief.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE what will BLOW YOUR MIND and be SOMETHING YOU'D NEVER EXPECT and make you RETHINK YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.

Sorry, I just see titles of stories like that and it just makes me roll my eyes.

It would be nice if this were not news.

This is a good story. I hope SF/F cons learn from this - having a good harassment policy and follow-through isn't a bad thing, but a net positive.

Yeah, this was my thought as well: it's great that it's happening, it sucks that it's we're surprised it's just happening now.
