Yay, a little more validity towards the institution of marriage! (but Empath, some context would be very welcome here)

Literally everything I know about this is from the youtube description.

That's wonderful. I have no idea how that relates to marriage...but the combination of traditional and digital and electronic and internet just.plain.works.

Thanks, that was a fantastic interlude that didn't require any further explanation.

I somehow happened upon this Youtube Channel a month ago and was just as confused by it as empath. They're really good.

I was thinking this is pretty great, but then the acid-cat came in around 3:03 and then it was the bestest.

Well, there's also Japanese Techno Girl Love TB-303 & TR-707 & RE-201

That's no acid-cat, that's Japanese cat robot "Kiku"!

I'm not an expert in Japanese culture, but I believe it's a riff on making your daughter learn a traditional instrument. But instead of a Koto, she's practicing the Roland TB-303.

Also, here is a site by the uploader, for those of you who read Japanese. (And here's the blog.)

I hate that all this gear is like $700 each now. My friend has a 606 and as i remember a 303, and we have to treat the stuff like faberge eggs.

Wow, she's great at not hitting the knobs and buttons with her kimono sleeve. Supra elegant DJ lady bride with surprise acid robot cat, please perform in the United States!

DISTORTION FROM THE FRIEND

I got kind of curious about this but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what is going on here.

電音道 doesn't look like a real word but some kind of pun. The first character means electricity, the second one means sound, and in fact those two together are (what became, via abbreviation) the name of a famous manufacturer of electronic equipment (maybe you've heard of them?).

The last character is "path" or "road," as well "way" (like, the Chinese "Tao," that "way"), and the last two taken together apparently mean something like a recitation of Confucian Chinese...?

No idea why it would have anything to do with marriage. I feel like either I'm missing some kind of other meaning associated with it or maybe this really is some kind of neologism. To be clear, I could be totally off-base and it could be exactly what pwnguin is saying, I'm totally going off of that word and not the marriage thing. Would love to know if anyone else has any idea what is up with this.

As far as the backstory, from reading the blog it seems like maybe this is some dude and he is getting women to perform these tunes for him? He talks a bit about finding performers and this one woman apparently helps him out more often.

He also laments (if I'm getting the tone right) in his most recent post that foreigners and not Japanese folks are watching his vids, and he had some foreigner contact him to do a remix but it was all in English so he was confused...haha. Poor guy.

And I think this is the cat's blog (that is written by the one woman, perhaps?), whose name is Toromi, I guess. Among other things there is a request there for more Japanese folks to comment on the Youtube page since there are so many damn foreigners (my words, not theirs, they are very thankful and polite regarding that).

In summary, all of us are confusing the hell out of them. And, we are confused. So there is a cycle of mutual confusion going on as far as I can tell. But, there's a cat involved, so it's all good.

Wow, after watching the video *all the way to the end* I realize I'm totally wrong about some things...Toromi is clearly the woman's name, and not the cat's name (Kiku, huh). Sorry for the bad info.

That doesn't seem like a very practical way to make tea.

It's one of those ironic jokes where the person making the joke doesn't think it's a joke. But it's a great joke.

I like her super minimalist kimono.

I'm pretty sure pwnguin has it: this is a subtle joke on young women learning a traditional art form to make themselves more suitable for marriage. dubitable, you're right that denon-do is a neologism, but the "denon" here is shorthand for electronic music, and the "do" means something like "art" or "practice." It's the same "do" in kado (flower arranging), sado (tea ceremony), and shodo (calligraphy), which are other acceptable traditional arts for young women.

I am curious, is this a sequencer music thing, to just throw a switch at more or less random times and make an abrupt transition in pitch or cut off an effect, without waiting for the end of a measure?

I can see how this could be used for an effect, but videos like this don't seem to be making a conscious effort to use this deliberately.

You and the young lady may not share the same conception of 'measure.'
