Sign of the Apocalypse: MTV Announces Line of PCs "Equipped With All the College Props" Uh, ...a beer funnel and a Dave Matthews cd? What else can we add to it? Is VH-1 going to do this?

I fail to see the apocalyptic nature of this story.

LCD monitor that provides radiation-free entertainment

I guess people were starting to notice all the bald, toothless, chancre-ridden college students.

"...and behold, the 8th seal was open, and there did pour forth the minions of music television, and they did prosper in the dorm rooms of the land. Yeah, verily, they did prosper until all computer companies pulled forth their advertising dollars from the pockets of the wealthy culture shapers."

can't remember the exact verse number...but i'm sure its in that bible thingy somewhere.

Built by OEM vendor Lan Plus, which sells systems under Northgate and several other brands
Northgate? There's a blast from the past. In their heyday I liked their expensive systems and lusted their clicky but lighter than the boat anchor-PS/2's keyboards. If only they'd come back and make a split key, clicky, dvorak model for less than $50 and I'm in wpm heaven.

Kids think The Dave Matthews Bland is cool? Man, I'm so woefully out of touch. I always thought they sucked. Hard. Spineless vanilla hiccup-rock that's as challenging as mayonnaise, as thoughtful as a fart, and as convincing as a Flat Earth Society fundraiser.

But back to the topic at hand. I want my MTVPC to have all the add-ons: condom dispenser, bong cleaner, and an auto-plagairizer.

"Yeah, my mom bought me all this junk; school logo hat, school logo t-shirt, school logo sweater, school logo running pants, school logo notebook, and this ugly-ass school logo MTVPC - and all it does is run the same damn program over and over again!

I amped to get out to the real world."

Hey, how come this thing can't get to mtv.curry.com?

Skot took the words out of my mouth.

Anyone remember the Barbie/Hotwheels pc? They didn't last long. I wonder: if such narrowly targeted products become popular, will we see the Viagara-PC, for senior men, or the Pampers-PC, aimed at infants?

Not to be boring, but I wonder if "all the college props" might also include some word processing software with which to write the occasional term paper (if there's time left for that).

TV, computer games, internet, music? Yeah, that pretty much sums up college for me. I shudder to think, though, how "hip" the design is going to be. I'm having visions of iMacs with that crappy "floral" design.

You're right! You are woefully out of touch.

every generation has their crap bands, i can't believe that K-Tel or whoever it is is trying to get people to feel all warm and fuzzy about the '80s by putting a Howard Jones non-hit in their Sounds of the 80s compilation.

like Dave Matthews' hair line, this too will pass

i'm just hoping they won't delete all my favorite programs only to replace them with crap ("yay.. aol 7.0").

man i miss sifl and olly.

lotsofno, I am totally in agreement on missing sifl and olly. That is probably the best show that was ever on MTV.

What, it doesn't give off light? How do they expect to sell such a thing?

On the other topic. I like DMB. Some of the stuff on "Under the Table and Dreaming" is wonderful. His later releases haven't thrilled me so much, although I did like a couple songs on "Before These Crowded Streets" a lot. I have 900 CDs and they ain't all DMB, just for the record. Different music for different moods.
