Wow. A bunch of the costumes must be referencing late 1970s movies that either I've never seen or have forgotten about. And this looks like Slave Leia, but the photo is dated three years before Return of the Jedi?

I was a nerdy teenager in the '80s and other than the Star Wars characters, Ripley, and Superwoman I do not recognize any of these characters. I feel my nerd points slipping away one by one...

Westercon 1980? And no one dressed as Tyrion? Big missed opportunity there, time-traveling GOT fans.

Did these guys tumble into the wrong convention?

This is the cover of pretty much every fantasy novel up until Leia made it mainstream and cover artists discovered realistic metal airbrush techniques and put steel or brass bikinis on everyone. It's how Robert E. Howard described almost every woman in his stories, too.

Darth Vader by the pool looks strangely forlorn, like he is wondering how his dreams of power came to this....

They are re-enacting the cover the DAW edition of Slaves of the Clown God, a lesser-known Moorcock novel that he wrote in 18 hours to pay the rent.
