List of Opt-out links that take you directly to the "opt out" feature of the ad server listed. Clicking these links stop the advertising from that adserver. Opt out of double-click, advertising.com, x10, 24/7 media.

Speaking of x10 (must hold back maniacal rage), Yahoo!News has decided to hide x10 adds in their list of News Stories, at least on this particular page.

I should have known better than to click it, but I did (it's the first article under "News Stories")

ohhh. This is good. I have DSL at home and zoom from site to site. Before I know it, I have five pop-up windows in my taskbar. Thanks for the link.

So - if I want to cease receiving Doubleclick ads I have to install a Doubleclick cookie on my computer. Sort of like paying for an unlisted telephone number in a way... I use Panicware's Free Pop-Up Stopper - it even makes a nice bug zap'n sound when it kills pop ups.

I use webwasher, and I have been more than pleased. That thing has more configuration options than you'll probably ever need, and it stops cookies, web bugs, and popups. Good stuff.

I use webwasher too(in conjunction with PopUp Killer- you can never be too safe), and love it. Only problem with it, though, is that sometimes the filters get a little overzealous and I have to temporarily disable it in order to see any page with Javascript or ColdFusion script. A small price to pay for getting rid of ad annoyances, I guess...

Hey, um, a rather large clarification should be made, here... Most of these are just opting out of the tracking cookie. You will still get the ads, but you won't be targeted or tracked. The deal is that they give you a non-unique cookie (like "opt-out" or some such) so that they can't track you.

I think the X-10 is the only one that will actually keep you from seeing ads.

I use Opera, and have it deny pop-up windows... (and use its cookie management to good effect, too.)

I have that host file, too... it's blocked all the doubleclick ads everywhere. However, it sort of breaks the BACK button... if a page has 2 doubleclick ads (as many do), it means I have to click the back button 3 times in order for it to actually work. Is this common, or do I have an IE6 configuration problem?

Don't want ads? Proxomitron is the most powerful tool for dealing with that if you have a Win32 machine around to run it on, followed on closely by the Waldherr version of Internet Junkbuster if you've got a handy Unixish box.

Opt-out my sweet patootie. I didn't ask for them in the first place or any of the rest of the side effects of Eternal September.
