would you like a pony?
do you know who doublepostguy is?

How long have you been a member? (either # or "Member since")

Is your email listed in your profile?

How many times have you double-posted?

How many times have you self-linked?

How many times in a day do you refresh MetaFilter?

How many posts to MeFi do you have?

How many posts to MeTa do you have?

How well do you know the guidelines?

1142?

Have you ever participated in a thread involving DoublePostGuy, Baby Jesus, Right Winger, or Pat McGroin?

If you asked me? No. CNet has a real message system. If it was Color 64 or an AABBS, yes, because those message board mechanisms were primitive and blog-like linear. 'Course, you didn't ask me.

Yes, you can download the latest version of Color 64 and All American BBS from the internet. The world is a scary, scary place.

if there is to be a MeFi code, it MUST include the question "How often do you get dragged into MetaTalk to be chewed out by other MeFites?"

Answers could include:

"What's MetaTalk?"

"Never, I post and comment responsibly"

"It happened once or twice but then I learned what I was doing wrong and resolved the issue"

"It happens all the time, but there's enough people who pop up to defend me that I refuse to change a bloody thing about my posting habits"

"I am Steven den Beste, or possibly MiguelCardoso"

Oooh, interesting dustup over at undisturbed concerning all this. It turns out Faith wrote a Weblogger Code back in July 2000. Obviously, it's a meme based on a thousand different Geek Codes. But she's decided that Ron, the creator of the recent Blogger Code, *stole the idea from her.*

She's accusing Ron of acting without integrity and all sorts of crap.

Personally, I think it's a coincidence, mingled with a lot of sour grapes.
posted by bjennings at 4:20 PM on January 14, 2002

Here we go again. Not everything on earth is motivated by sour grapes. Heaven forbid that anyone just care about their stuff being their stuff.
posted by faith at 9:39 PM on January 14, 2002

Right, Faith. But the problem is that you seem to think *his work* is *your stuff* based on the fact that you both independently got the same idea (a geek code for webloggers). It's your cries of "integrity" which are making you look like you're behaving with sour grapes, especially seeing how upfront Ron has been about this whole thing.

You can't copyright an idea. You *can* copyright your work, your text, your code. Unless you can suddenly show that Ron took over your work wholesale, you've got a losing battle in front of you.
