After two long years, season three of Check it Out! with Dr. Steve Brule returns to Adult Swim with a look at Planes. A spin-off of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, it stars John C. Reilly as Dr. Steve Brule. Every week, Dr. Steve Brule "checks stuff out" like Relationships ("If your body's lonely it's gonna get sick, probably!"), Food ("Try going a day without it. You'll miss it, Charlie!"), Space ("One small mankind, I'm gonna leap the hell out of this rocket!"), and Animals ("Just turn around and look, you dingus. Your best friends are animal.") All 13 episodes and two special presentations are available online.

Fair warning: short ad precedes videos.

I watched about two minutes of that, and was feeling very uncomfortable and decided not to watch any more of it.

Maybe it's just me.

I loved the first season of check it out. They made Steve Brule into a doofus, but you empathized with him because in the end he just wants what all of is want - someone to love him, for people to think he's cool.

But by the second season, they had made him so stupid and so repellant that I didn't like watching it anymore. I miss the Steve Brule who loves talking about cool cars and pruppets.

John C. Reilly and Dr. Brule did a Reddit AMA today to promote the new season. One redditor, /u/GooldForNothing, revealed his Dr. Steve Brule tattoo in this comment.

Like all Reddit AMAs, it's a popularity-driven free-for-all, so it doesn't really stay on the topic of the show, but unless you're Woody Harrelson, you're generally cool with that. In addition to discussing how the show works in reality, and his own job on "Check It Out!" (assisting Dr. Brule), Reilly discusses Paul Thomas Anderson movies, Tim & Eric, Dewey Cox, Step Brothers/Will Ferrell, and more. Look for the blue username for comments by Mr. Reilly and Dr. Brule.

First episode had a bit more of the feeling of the first season, I thought.

It may not be prime Steve Brule, but damned if "If you don't like creamed chipped beef just eat the corned beef hash part, you dangus" didn't make me laugh like the good old days.

I'm fascinated by Dr. Steve Brule. He has so many characteristics of being mentally disabled, but by adding in the "Doctor" part and the fact that he inexplicably hosts a TV show, it gives the character enough plausible deniability that you can laugh with/at him and not feel bad.

For the record, I love the show, but sometimes I still to feel a little weird about it.

Man, these and Tim & Eric in general make me super uncomfortable, though I don't have anything against them. Me, I prefer Dr Benjamin Dasse.

I never really thought about it like that, but I see it a little differently.

What I like about the Tim and Eric universe is that the only barrier to entry is being conventional and everyone is basically accepted for who they are. (I particularly like the way both the cross-dressing and the non-sexual male touching isn't itself played for laughs. Considering their demographic, it's pretty subversive.) But as someone who took a long time to warm up to Tim and Eric I agree that the discomfort stage is a very high hurdle to clear before you reach acceptance.

I agree. I also find it a little bit sweet and touching that in their universe, on their small-town local-access news channel, these characters are local celebrities.

It's actually sort of the same thing that I find appealing about Parks & Recreation.

For mock kids' shows, nothing beats the intentional universal offensiveness if Wonder Showzen.

But, I'll admit that this caught my attention with the listings starting with a town-wide evacuation.

Thanks for posting! Total absurdity pushes my humor buttons so I'm 100% delighted to see more of Check it Out!
