That was fun. I used to love those Robert Palmer videos.

I love that the guys in this look entirely comfortable in the makeup and outfits. The "blue steel" eyes are killing me, though.

That was considerably more fun than anyone has had in a Robert Palmer video and also I am so getting this album.

Also there's a cover of "Addicted to Love" by Florence + the Machine that is wonderful.

Seeing a whole bunch of built guys running around in the that navy blue outfits with the orange belts remind me of what it was like just before and just after we'd get on the water for rowing in college. Here we all were, hanging around in our unitards and it was awkward, yet normal.

Even better was when the act went coed, because yeah, that was exactly like rowing... everybody dressed pretty ridiculously and identically. So yeah... this just made me want to row. Advice though - don't row in that much makeup unless you've really got some serious sweat resistant stuff.

I'm kinda amazed it's taken almost 30 years for that to happen.

I can't be the only one who is far more comfortable with the sexy dudes than her sexy Sarah Palin look. Fun video. Very well done. On preview: agree with Runes--what took music so long?

That is far too catchy. Thanks for the link!

Shania Twain did it back in '99, but not with nearly as much fun.

Yeah Admiral I was way more comfortable with the guys being objectified than the obvious push up bra and cleavage on Michaelson. Plus the glasses made me think of Sally Jesse Raphael. I think it would've been much better to have Michaelson in a women's tailored man suit with a button downed shirt and tie instead of the ensemble she was wearing.

Plus the song seemed like a cover of that Blur song done in half time.

This makes me even sadder that I won't go see her when she's in town, because she's playing at Stubbs, and if I never go to another show at Stubbs it'll be too soon. Terrible crowds and totally impossible to see anything. Maybe I'll bike down there and hang out outside the fence and listen.

That was remarkably charming. I like how they broke character near the end of the video and just started having fun.

She, um, was nailin' Palin (er, as in "Michaelson really nailed the Sarah Palin look").

I kind of needed that - bisexual (but mostly female-preferring) me was feeling a little conflicted about liking the song so much when it sounds so heterocentric. Now all I'm feeling conflicted about are my new feelings for muscular men in heavy makeup and tight tights. Actually, on second thought, I don't think I'm too conflicted over that either.

vuron: the song seemed like a cover of that Blur song done in half time.

That Blur song (Girls & Boys) and use YouTube's HTML5 beta to slow it down to half speed (or load it as a network stream in VLC) [source].

Fwiw, the song was originally written by Trent Dabbs (amazing songwriter, if you watch Nashville he wrote the Juliette Barnes song "don't throw dirt on my grave just yet") as a mopey breakup song about boys and girls.

Ingrid heard the demo, polished it up and made it more inclusive and open. The video carried that theme further.

Girls and Boys slowed down to halftime actually sounds pretty awesome filthy light thief when you do that thanks as does Song 2. Now to listen to ingrid michaelson (who I generally love) at double speed.

Michelle Shocked did it in 1988.

Robert Palmer for those who don't know it.

The music sounds like "Royals" and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" got married and had a baby.

This song sounds nothing like Robert Palmer.

Wow.. just goes to show how good Robert Palmer's song was.

You know, I've tried with this woman. I have. Really. However, I don't know which is worse: her endless supply of vocal affectations (vocal fry, up speaking, the weird hiccup-in-the-back-of-the-throat thing, etc), her inability to write a decent, non-dirgey song that doesn't rely on gimmicky arrangements, or the fact that all her lyrics are paeans to complacency. For my money, Kathryn Calder is way more interesting, musically and lyrically, and her work is far less gimmicky.

Ingrid was in kindergarten when Robert Palmer was in his heyday. Does she even remember him or did she find out about him some other way?

That reminds me of talking to a young lady who said that Reagan was her favorite president, though I'm pretty sure she wasn't alive during his presidency, or if she was, she was only a few years old.

Kids pick up on the darnedest things.

The internet barely existed when Robert Palmer was his heyday. Doesn't mean the videos aren't online.

That Robert Palmer song, and album, was pure exploitation to gain exposure. And, I'm pretty sure, that Ingrid Michaelson albums don't drop, they are released.
