For members of the Mefi Rheumatic Brigade, this came as good news:
"Gran's gin is tonic
YOU won't get any health benefits from alcohol until you are older, say Annie Britton and Klim McPherson of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine." posted by MiguelCardoso at 11:10 AM on January 15, 2002
this came as good news:
Not to mention Drinking alcohol may repair your liver: "Scientists say low alcohol consumption may activate a gene for a growth hormone that helps regenerate damaged livers." posted by Shadowkeeper at 1:03 PM on January 15, 2002
Except I'm waiting for high alcohol consumption to be discovered as the life-saver it is. The crowd at New Scientist are obviously sympathetic, considering their unnatural, entirely healthy interest in the matter. I give them two years.
The headlines alone show what a jolly bunch of boozers they all must be. ;) posted by MiguelCardoso at 1:52 PM on January 15, 2002
The Science of Getting Schnockered...science, hell, getting schnockered, my freind, is an art. posted by jonmc at 4:46 PM on January 15, 2002
This, also, is quite true, jonmc. But unfortunately there's no weekly "New Artist" magazine which even tries to address the issues at hand. A scandal, I know.
So, for the time, being, the scientists, be they mooks or not, it will have to be.( I once dated a girl who was writing a Ph.D thesis on ethanol at Wolfson College, in Oxford. So there!) posted by MiguelCardoso at 5:38 PM on January 15, 2002

Why do I have
"The politics of dancing,
The politics of - ooooo - feelin' good"
from the darkest depths of the mid-80's running through my brain?
No idea.
Great site, though - thanks. And some dear-to-my-heart articles there amongst the admonitions :
