The Science of Getting Schnockered The "New Scientist" directory of articles relating to drunkenness. Some of my favorites: why drunk people tend to stagger more to one side than another, drunks can control their behavior if they really want to, and girls can match boys drink for drink, so long as they stick to beer.

Except I'm waiting for high alcohol consumption to be discovered as the life-saver it is. The crowd at New Scientist are obviously sympathetic, considering their unnatural, entirely healthy interest in the matter. I give them two years.

The headlines alone show what a jolly bunch of boozers they all must be. ;)

This, also, is quite true, jonmc. But unfortunately there's no weekly "New Artist" magazine which even tries to address the issues at hand. A scandal, I know.

So, for the time, being, the scientists, be they mooks or not, it will have to be.( I once dated a girl who was writing a Ph.D thesis on ethanol at Wolfson College, in Oxford. So there!)
