the Ben Miller Band...is one of the best. Treat yourself on this friday night. (SLYT) Roots rock is rock music that looks back to rock's origins in folk, blues and country music. It is particularly associated with the creation of hybrid sub-genres from the later 1960s including country rock and Southern rock, which have been seen as responses to the perceived excesses of dominant psychedelic and developing progressive rock. Because roots music (Americana) is often used to mean folk and world musical forms, roots rock is sometimes used in a broad sense to describe any rock music that incorporates elements of this music. (WiKi) Americana
is "contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band.

Hey thanks for posting this, shockingbluamp, I hadn't thought about these guys for a while. But... they played on our front deck a couple of years ago and it was awesome! They were staying at the house for SXSW, and at the end of it, to thank us I guess, or just 'cos they felt like playing more, they threw down a full set for probably 20 people, and it kicked some serious ass, as one could gather from these videos.
One of the best things about it that I remember was a version of "Three Little Birds," which seemed, oddly, to suit their style just fine. I'll second that they're well worth seeing live!

Weird...I saw these guys a few years ago at my neighborhood pub. I thought they were just some guys.

When you get down to it, ANY band is just some guys (and/or gals). Enjoy 'em before or after they become well known (or even if they never do). It isn't about anybody else but you.

By that definition, see also the albums Blonde on Blonde, Working Man's Dead, American Beauty, My Aim is True and Born To Run for further examples...
No knock on BMB intended, by the way...

I'm diggin' this hell more than I expected to. Like a down-home fuzzy-tone jug-band, but with a really kick-ass percussionist. This looks like the most fun hoedown to see live.

I got to see these guys play as part of Big Smith's farewell tour, and they are quite a thing to see live. The percussionist plays a mean washboard and trombone, and part of me never believed anyone could play an actual washtub bass with any real accuracy before I caught that show, but evidently it is a thing.
If you get a chance, go see 'em.
