That is an unfair blanket statement. Counter-example, with tiny adorable blankets: baby bats, though the last image of a fruitbat noshing on some fruit might not be your kind of cute.

That was exactly what it was like sitting in the backseat with my siblings when we were kids. My brother would be the bat on the left that's crowding everyone.

Awwwwww, no they're not! They're cute! I mean, they're not cute when they're flying around in your house for an hour at 730 am until you finally manage to capture them with one of the dog's towels, but here they're awesome!
I'd love to hear it with Rizzo the Muppet rat's voice dubbed in, but I thought the music was pretty fun.

I am very disappointed in myself for the line of thought that went "Huh, that was pretty cute, but the bats really need to be more - animated - to make it really work . . . maybe they could be filmed hanging from a wire, and you could give them little rhythmic shocks every so often to make them . . . oh God, what am I thinking?!?"
