Dr. Maya Angelou, hugely admired author, poet, artist, and "consummate and powerful woman," was also a prostitute and brothel manager in her younger days. She was never ashamed or secretive about that fact while she was alive, so why are Nice, Respectable People trying to cover it up now that she's dead?
