Just want to confirm that I don't have any associations with the watmm website!

This is pretty exciting. The first track sounds great.

Track 1 felt a bit similar to previous works, but I'm really digging track 2.

This is all very, very enjoyable. Like the best of RDJ, the music seems to work for any mood, situation, or atmosphere. I'm delighted this is available.

(Not that I'm complaining, previous stuff is phenomenal)

So why the hell am I only learning of this AFTER the Kickstarter closed?

Cooooooool! Could we do a Kickstarter to remaster Boards of Canada's early tapes?

I wonder who was selling one of the four test pressings.

Well, the e-bay auction for the actual vinyl says that the disc will come from Grant Wilson-Claridge (co-founder of Rephlex Records), so I'd guess that it was either him, or Richard James himself.

That auction is still live, by the way, if you have over $6000 and an inclination to own a bit of music history...

This is very, very cool and I'm glad it happened, but on first listen, I can maybe understand why he didn't want to release it.

These tracks sounds like demos, rather than fully developed tracks—both musically and in terms of recording quality. I'm glad the (always fanatical) RDJ fanbase did this so that I can hear the tracks, but yeah—I can see why it wasn't released.

Back in 1994

...I was wondering why this sounded like it was made twenty years ago. As a historical relic, it's a lot more interesting than it is as a new album.

Sounds like a bunch of crappy out-takes from the early releases.

It's the first new Aphex Twin since that Indian Raga album he put out in 2010! </conspiracy>

Some people only be liking shit if it's brand new.

It'll be cool to listen to while comparing it to μ-Ziq's description of the tracks.

Neat. Coincidentally, just last week I made Digeridoo into my ringtone.

It's very much a 1994 IDM album, for better or for worse. Even the stuff that sounds dated is cool with me, because it's another snapshot of a great era and scene.

Love it. Makes me want to pull old Cylob and Muziq off the shelf. Thanks for posting.

I've been hanging out on the WATMM boards too much, it's good to hear some non-kool-aid opinions. It was nice biking home to some of these tracks yesterday after work, but I found it pretty easy to quit listening to most tracks after three or four minutes, regardless if they were only at the mid-point. Hope this isn't RDJ's swan song in terms of released records.

Some people only like stuff when its actually good. - Its clear why these tracks were never released. Most have very particular elements that were used more effectively in stuff that was released. So they just sound like a poor demo versions of something that was released.

- I see no real benefit to these sketches actually being made public. ..meh.. I think they are only of interest to the sycophants.

Hey, well, way to malign what amounts to a big hobby for other people. By nature this sort of thing is for completists and not randos like you and me. Not sure why you're so pissed off about this.

This is awesome. I can tell you that more than 4 people had this album, or one of them leaked it, because a DJ friend of mine (who is personal friends with one of the aforementioned 4 folks mentioned in the Kickstarter) had a copy of this and played it for myself and a few friends years ago while chilling at his place. We got pretty high and listened to 101 Rainbows and I have thought about that track for YEARS after the fact. It is so nice to hear it again. Brings back memories of a happy time :)

This got me to go back through the Aphex discography. I forgot I had a copy of the Ventolin EP when I was a kid. I also forgot that it's 54 minutes long, most of the "remixes" are completely new pieces of music, and that it's as great as any full-length Aphex album. Damn, he really does have one of those catalogues that are more like wormholes into other dimensions.

(Late 90s Cylob makes me want to put on some Bogdan Raczynski.)

Sure, some of it leaves me a cold, but then so did much of RDJ's "off-label" stuff at the time (like AFX's Analogue Bubblebath 1-n, the other Caustic Window releases). I'm only a few songs in and already Mumbly is a good one I'd never heard.

I am really enjoying these tracks. I guess I am a horrible sycophant.
