So, so awesome. The pictures of the actors who were inside the suit are really great.

Y'know, Alien is pretty fucked up.

I'll just go ahead and be that asshole who thinks Alien needed more Moebius even if it meant less Giger.

Great images. Alien is my favorite of the bunch especially for the little goofy moments that really look like just a guy in a suit--like when it's ejected from the airlock and hanging on to that tether. Or the Jazz-hands moment in the air ducts. Good stuff.

I love the sketch by Scott. I had no idea he was that good of an illustrator.

That was Scott's thing in his earlier movies. He'd do hundreds of drawings and sketches, visualizing everything before he started filming.

Guillermo del Toro does that as well. His illustrations are great.

Ron Cobb also designed a flag for the United Americas -the union of South, Central and North America which took place in 2104
By trade agreement, no doubt.

He will always be Pinback to me, even if he wasn't even really Pinback.

I'm pretty sure I independently came up with that "ALIEN NO VISITORS" sign when my parents wouldn't let me go to Dog Camp. In retrospect I wasn't ready for Dog Camp but I still think I'm owed a little taste of that overseas rev.

Also, for Alien fans, I can't recommend a viewing of Terrore Nello Spazio enough.

I still remember how Alien was the first movie that really looked like it had jumped off of the covers of science fiction novels and magazines. The way that Scott used Cobb and Foss to design the human environment and Giger to design the alien side was brilliant. The dynamic of having those radically different artistic sensibilities set up in opposition to each other just made the alienness of the alien so stark and jarring. I still can't believe that he managed to make that movie in 1979, it was just so different than anything before it.

Sometimes throwback animated movies come out that use old-school techniques like stop-action photography. I'm thinking Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline, that kind of stuff.

This needs to happen with sci-fi movies and model-based special effects. Movies like Alien had texture.

I don't think I ever realized the design of the Nostromo was essentially a bit of brutalist architecture in space!

Great collection of images, thanks for posting.

Another, code-breaking sci-fi Jones from animalia.

I am (hopefully) going to make a SF short soon that does exactly that.
