They Are Sports Bar

Sports Bar are a band from Richmond, Virginia that play fun, fast, lo-fi, riff-heavy upbeat rock songs with lyrics like "My friends are your friends but your friends are bullshit!" and "Waaa-ohhhh-ohhh-wa-oh-OH-oh-oh!" It's the summer party music you didn't know you needed, and because their one album and two EPs can be downloaded for free from Bandcamp: Cassette, Tyler Perry's Sports Bar, and I Want To Waste Away With You.

Due to my feelings about sports bars I hadn't expected to like this music, but I like it. It's like Archers of Loaf meets The Hold Steady.

I feel obliged to add that they have a song called "Big Mac Yeah" that features such lines as "Every time I travel to the space / I just grab a number one and put it in my face", "Sweat! Sweat! Sweat! Sweat!" and "Bring back McRib! Bring back McRib!" Not sure how I could have left that out.

My band with another Mefite, CapnSue, played with Sports Bar in Richmond last year and they were absolutely amazing. Seriously killed it.

They're kind of like a wide-eyed, slightly nicer Mclusky. Which is AWESOME.

Believe it or not, they played on a bill with "Men's Room" in Richmond. That might be just as much or harder too google.
