A New Vision for America.It's time, says the UPI editor-at-large. He calls for a presidential commission. Who should be on it? Do you have a new vision for America?

Free markets underpinned by a government in which representative democracy does not exist. (read Hoppe's book, Democracy: The God that Failed)

That's the only way to keep corporations from completely manipulating American politics, and by extension manipulating world politics.

"Grand design?" Sounds like central planning to me. My "vision" is that the US gov't gets back to doing what the founding fathers meant it to -- and leaves the rest of us the hell alone otherwise. Track down every murderous Muslim moron abroad, and every non-constitutional program on the domestic front, and we're there.

De Borchgrave is pretty goofy, and his politics remind me of Lyndon LaRouche (someone so far left ... he's right). The idea of a "commission" to jawbone for several months and come up with a "vision" that would have any other use than mopping up some consultancy fees should be ludicrous, especially when it has a writ so expansive as this column suggests.

Normally, when we're faced with 20 interlocking problems like this, we appoint a group of representatives from all parts of the country to discuss how best to handle each of them individually with specific, binding recommendations. Oh, right, the commission is called Congress and its recommendations are called laws.

Thanks to Sapphireblue and CarolAnne for the background on UPI! I'm curious- does this sort of editorial come as a surprise to people familiar with UPI and Mr. DeBorchgrave? Why wouldn't it make sense for a President to work out his own postition proactively with a smaller group, rather than waiting to react to Congress?

Maybe the US doesn't need a new vision. Everyone except insomnyuk is perfectly happy with our current vision of living in an island of captialist freedom, surrounded by envious terrorist onlookers?
