Frankly it's rude of these people to continue writing books before I'm done reading all the ones they're already written.

I have a literal countdown clock to the release of Tana French's The Secret Place (Sept 2! 57 days!).

It's not on that list but, people of America, you should buy A Girl Is A Half-Formed Thing when it comes out there. It is brilliant.

Also, I didn't realise Miranda July had a novel coming out (I loved her short story collection, and both her films are brilliant and beautiful), and now January seems a long, long way away.

Yay, a new book of Meghan Daum essays! Thanks for letting me know. My Misspent Youth is a strange and wonderful book but it's almost 15 years old now.

I'm halfway through both Station Eleven and We Are Not Ourselves, neither of which I would have read on my own without encouragement, but I'm so, so glad I am. Both are hard to put down - so far! Pleasedon'tturnbadpleasedon'tturnbad.

Hardly anyone would notice if I read a few more pages here at work. Right?

Takes notes, expands wish list ... Stone Mattress was already on it but I hadn't yet heard about most of the others.

(In terms of books not on the list, I am personally quivering with anticipation for Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genvieve Valentine, which may already be out by now, Ancillary Sword by Anne Leckie, and Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray.)

I have to spend ~9,000 bucks on books in the next 6 months (18k by end of newly started fiscal year). It's a lot harder than you think, especially when you get the books at half price to begin with, so you're actually needing to spend ~18k to stay on track.

So what I'm saying is thanks for this.

I could probably try to help you out with your burden.

It's a monkey's paw thing. When you open a box filled with James Pattersons, you'll understand.

I'm most excited for "The Magician's Land" by Lev Grossman. The last of his Magician's trilogy, I'm a huge fan of the first two books ("The Magicians" and "The Magician King") and - honestly - am really just waiting to see how he works foxes into this last one.

Not on the list, but I'm looking forward to The Causal Angel next week.

I think I must be the only genre fiction fan who did not like Lev Grossman's Magician books.

Counting the days until The Bone Clocks, tho.
