I would for sure be very excited if there were actual new cartoons, but just "we will probably make something again sometime" is not enough to really get my enthusiasm roiling.

I wondered if they were surprised by the reaction they received for the April Fool's Day cartoon.

I have a plush The Cheat in my closet that used to routinely scare the crap out of me when I'd accidentally bump into him and he'd start chattering away. The battery finally died, I think, but I'm so glad The Cheat is not dead.

Newton's too old. Strong Bad is going to be using a Windows XP lappy and posting to a Livejournal.

I would do literally anything to see more Teen Girl Squad episodes produced. Maybe I'm easily amused (maybe? Just maybe??), but that's the single most brilliant series of non sequitur popular culture skewerfest I have ever watched.

so...you like cloth? FULL BARS!

IT'S NOT OVER! I hope.

I was just thinking he'd have a Palm Pilot. That would be haunted by Bad Graphics Ghost, of course.

Anyway, any Homestar Runner is better than none. I'd be perfectly happy with a slower update schedule, especially since the Chaps are working on Real Life TV Programs (Yo! Gabba Gabba and Aquabats) now.

Though I adore the Homestar universe, and though my first reaction is to celebrate with a pizza, or trophy, or pizza trophy, I wouldn't mind if they decided to wrap up Homestar Runner for good. They had such a good run, and if the Brothers Chaps no longer have the time or the desire to go back to regular updates or any updates at all, I'm okay with that. All good things either end or slowly lose what made them good, and although I believe there's potential for plenty more brilliant Homestar cartoons, I tend to be skeptical of attempts to revive long-dormant series.

Back in grad school the senior grads and I started referring to two younger students and two techs as "Teen Girl Squad", because there were four of them, they hung out together all the time, and the generation gap between us was noticeable.

It worked fine right up until the day they realized we called them that, and the cleverest of the bunch stared at me and said "so... Which one of us is 'the ugly one'?"

(I told her that we didn't have an ugly one - she, being from South America, was simply 'the foreign one' instead. Sometime last year I got a photo in my email. It was a picture of all four of them together at a conference, and was titled "Teen Girl Squad Reunion" ... )

Given SB's propensity for adopting outdated technology, I think it's obvious that he'd get a microscopically tiny, borderline-unusable netbook next. He won't move on to a tablet until we're all using holographic neural interfaces.

My "Crazy Go Nuts University" t-shirt is in regular rotation on weekends. My kids, ever confused by the CGNU mascot of the Dumple, always ask me what it is.

This triggers the CGNU fight song in my head.

Fighting
And Sometimes striving,
Wondering what the Dumple is..."

They prefer to call it a ravioli in a hat. Which is also true.

It still happens to this day, but like some sort of Godwin's law for my friends:

As my friends hang out, the odds of the Homestarrunner rave scene being acted out approaches 1.

Typically, someone makes rave sounds. Then someone starts in with "the system has failed" then someone starts flipping the light switch, then more dubstep sounds. Then someone imitates the cheat.

It's like magic.

Anyone else notice that, on the typical Men in Blazer video, when they do the "Paul Carr Blows Your Mind" chant, it's the same rhythm and tempo as "Come on, Fhqwhgads?"

BECAUSE IT IS, YOU KNOW.

My thoughts:

The fact the interview happened kind of blew my mind. The Brothers Chaps have always struck me as being somewhat Wattersonian in their privacy.

If they did a Kickstarter and threatened to never do Homestar Runner ever ever again if it failed, it would make seven digits day one (although beating Reading Rainbow's 11-hour record is a tall order). Then again, Don't Hug Me I'm Scared did exactly the same thing and they might not have made it without TomSka's help.

Lastly, my message to everyone who said that the Brothers Chaps not longer want to do Homestar or otherwise that Homestar will never ever ever ever under any circumstances ever times a bajillion ever come back (I'm looking at you with a big ol' stinkeye, LogicalDash), a paraphrasing of the words of the great Strong Bad: punch yourselves in the face.

Another thought: I wonder if any fans literally died waiting for Homestar Runner to come back. The Brother Chaps should do something nice for their families.

Speaking of massive hiatuses, I wonder if the Brothers Chaps will play up Crack Stuntman's similarity to the legendarily opposite-of-fashionably late Duke Nukem. ALWAYS BET ON 2 MANY KNIVES.

The Chaps bros don't hold a candle to Bill Watterson, re: privacy. I think they've actually engaged with a bit of outreach with other people in fact. They got DaVinci's Notebook to do a song for them, and have done a few things with They Might Be Giants.

In the spirit of celebrating our favorite bits of Homestar lore, how about:
- The puppets?
- The puppets in Everybody Knows It?
- The animated adventures of puppet Homestar? "He goed and goed until he finally went!"
- The puppets-in-the-office videos, Bis Cas Fri?
- Dangeresque: Puppet Squad!

Suffice to say, I didn't link to nearly all of the puppet stuff. I figure I should leave some (most) of it for other people to discover on their own.

I think even if the Chaps never make another Flash cartoon (and really, wasn't Flash on websites supposed to be on its way out?) the puppets could have a long and hilarious life.
