A touching sad comic about how one woman dealt with her sexual assault. (slMedium) (TW: recounting of rape)

Oh my God. Thank you for posting this. That's all I can say.

I love her way of putting it -- "I thought I could have another story." So simple, so common.

Wow. "No one would believe that I didn't fight" hit me hard.

I expect that many of our rape stories (mine included) don't involve the perfect victim and the perfect rapist. We all want a different story. She is incredibly brave to have put this out there. This is very, very powerful.

Wow, "I compartmentalize" hit me in the gut. Like many, many people, I've had experiences I wish I didn't have, including sexual experiences, and I just don't think about them. Sometimes they pop into my head, and then I make weird noises or shudder or whatever, but I just don't think about them. There are parts of my memory that are basically closed rooms and I try like hell to keep those doors closed and sometimes at night they open anyway but I do what I can to get through the day (I also have bipolar so some of my painful memories wouldn't even seem that bad, but to be honest I don't even know what most of them are because I don't think about them. The past is not a place I choose to visit). I compartmentalize, and I try only to open the doors I want open. You do what you can.

That line ignited both tears and a white-hot fury.

Aw man, this is exactly what went through my mind after I had a similar experience, except he was the one that made breakfast and I stayed and ate it because I don't know.

There are so many hidden rooms in my mind.

I often ask myself why I didn't fight. Why I kept dating the jerk. All my fault. All my fault.

I ordered a pizza for the guy who did the thing I don't call rape. It was almost twenty years ago. I think I'm ready to let old me off the hook for it now. It's okay, old me. That shit was fucked up.

So well done. For me it was "I don't want to be beautiful anymore."
