In "These Aren't the Droids" Neko Case (previously) and Kelly Hogan (previously) imagine a future designed by teenaged fanboys, and Ellie Kemper plays the unlucky wife of a Stromtrooper. [SLYT]

The song is part of a album to benefit 2776.

They clearly desire a future with waaaaay more body hair than really seems necessary.

Love it (OK I basically want to hang out with Kelly Hogan in Star Wars cosplay forever). The rest of the album looks interesting too. I think this Christmas tale will find a spot on my December cheer playlist.

"Dudes with pubes!" Body hair did indeed come up a lot of times in the song.

I wonder how many nerds are on the ground twitching after noticing she's got Princess Leia hair yet she's wearing a Star Trek shirt.

This is so damn awesome and there is no fucking way in hell I will even glance at the comments because I already know how awful they probably are.

Hey, why did Neko Case cancel her Sled Island show at Olympic Plaza? In her absence the Sled people opened the gates and Joel Plaskett played a free show, which was amazing, so indirect thanks to Neko Case I guess, but I never heard why she cancelled. This was June 21.

So.... Female nerds have a vision of the future that is just as uncompelling as male nerds?

You didn't really have to make a whole twee song to convince me. I already knew.

Her website says "travel circumstances out of her control".

I think I may have searched for "2276" by mistake, because there was a post about the album previously.

Yeah, I did that other post, but I sort of buried the lede (Awesome Neko/Kelly song!) and there wasn't a video yet. So no harm, no foul.

This is kind of my new favorite thing ever. And in case you need a further injection of awesome into it, here's the cover for the song designed by Kelly's BFF Lynda Barry

Actually, the only negative-ish comments were feminist folk jumping to defense of nerd culture as more inclusive to women than the video/song would lead a person to believe. I think that there's an exception-that-proves-the-rule argument and maybe a hey-they're-writing-a-comedy-song argument against that, but in any case, I think we can all agree that it's cool the comments aren't the stupid dudebro asshattery we might have feared they'd be.

That's quite a relief, thanks. Still not gonna read 'em.

Also, can I just say for the record that I would like to be best friends with Neko and Kelly? The partner and I saw them when they hit Chicago for their tour for The Worse Things Get... and they were not only phenomenal, but their on-stage patter was hilarious. Bonus: Eric Bachmann is in the band these days and he and Neko sang Crooked Fingers' "Sleep All Summer" in the encore, which was freaking stunning.

There isn't a finer singer alive than Neko Case and if you think there is, please MeMail your address so that I can come over and blow raspberries at you in front of your neighbors.

Fuck yeah, Neko Case! If God ever says to me, "Why should I let humanity continue?" I'll be like, "Neko Case! Case closed!"

When she announced her recent Austin gig on Twitter, I replied that "I'm out of town playing a private party, but If I were playing bass in your band, I wouldn't have to miss the show." Alas, she never responded. :-( :'-(

It's enough to hope that women have a future they get to choose for themselves without insisting it be better than the one they don't get to choose.

Devils Rancher, you are no doubt a fine musician, but Neko's bass player probably kicks your ass at beardedness.

Kelly: Oh, and a cougar is an animal.
Neko: An animal that eats you whole and poops you out on a rock!

Love these gals!

That's a downside of my NA ancestry -- everyone always kicks my ass at beardedness.

I get it and I appreciate it, and its super fun, but it was a little too "white bread" nerd. Star Trek and Star Wars? Nothing else (mix'n'matching notwithstanding)?

Catchy tune. Featured 50mL Falcons, hurray!, but liquid nitrogen? Bah.
