AOL's Netscape sues Microsoft for damage done to its Netscape Internet browser by violations of antitrust law found in a separate government case against the software giant. "I don't see this case as primarily about money. I see it as primarily about injunctive relief,'' said Steve Salop, a Georgetown University law professor.

Let's see how well IE 6.01 onwards will gel with the upcoming AOL versions now.

Netscape should sue AOL for continuing to ship Internet Explorer with America Online 7. Sheesh.

Ok, I'm not a big MS fan, but in my opinon, Netscape isn't as good as IE anyway. That's the reason it's failing.

Also, if putting your own product within your own product is anti-trust this and that, then I'm going to sue every fastfood joint for putting in that confounded secret sauce of theirs into their main courses(if you would ever call them that, heheh).

I'm going to sue AOL for putting AOL ads within AIM. They should put MSN ads there! ANTI-TRUST! MONOPOLY!

Sheesh.

BTW, I'm not really gonna sue anyone.

Netscape it too friggin' slow on my 850 P3...I like to click in and out of pogram constantly, and Netscape was just too slow. I usually don'y like MS, but they got one up in the Internet Browser department.

If AOL wasn't so gizarre they would just put Netscape as the default for their software and return the browser market to a 50/50 split between Netscape and Microsoft.

yeah, why does aol come with exploder. if they are this serious then they should have fixed up netscrape. Personally, I still prefer netscrape over exploder, seriously.

ie is included with aol because of the uneasy alliance between microsoft and aol. microsoft lets aol on the desktop when they really just want msn there and for that aol ships ie.

that's the way i remember it, anyway. i'm too busy to dig up some links.

The reason that AOL uses IE as its browser is that they want default placement on the Windows desktop. This placement is worth far more to them than an increased share of the browser market. After all, the threat to move to a different browser platform isn't so far fetched when you consider that they own Netscape.

A similar argument could be made as to why an AOL acquisition of Redhat would make sense.
