That is a wonderful story. In a way it's not so different that, say, the huge cultural fascination in late C19th and early C20th Germany in the US West.

I don't have time to watch the full thing tonight but the parts I watched were equal parts amazing and hysterical. The deadpan delineation of regions by music was perfect.
