Delightful!

I wish we got proper winters in my neck of the woods. Our winters are rubbish.

To be honest, I was hankering for some straightforward winter photography to combat my summertime blues. What I got was HDR'd, oversaturated, heavily post-processed, Disney-fied fantasy images that left me - well, a bit...cold. Sorry.

Some of those are really beautiful, especially the shots of the birds. Some of them are... HDR'd all to hell, which is a damn shame.

Definitely a bit of oversaturation going on (it's the new dodging-and-burning, I guess), but who among us hasn't felt like this at times?

I just realized that HDR=Thomas Kinkade.

Sorry. I still hate winter.

Yeah...a little too special-effectsy for my tastes. It's surely some very skilled photography—you don't get images like these without knowing what you're doing—but most of them are lovely scenes whose direct, unassuming beauty has been drenched under two inches of HDR frosting. Kinkade indeed.

The one that uosuaq points out is a nice exception. You can practically hear that bird muttering "oh my god, fuck this shit".

I miss winters. I need to move north, soon.

I don't miss winter except for looking at it and such images as this are quite sufficient to satisfy any nostalgia I might have for winter. Also, I am mad for Elena Sumilova's images.

Not so wonderful for those of us with snow in the forecast THIS WEEK.

Mostly I just take pictures of the girls running around like idiots and biting each other, but if we get a good solid single-snowfall dumping this year I might see if I can replicate that Beetle shot.

It's mostly been a nice summer, in contrast to the last couple, and we only got about two weeks total of Totally Gross Hot Muggy. But even so, it's time for summer to fuck right off and let it start that long, glorious cooling slide through fall.

Dude, that is some straight up bullshit, even for Canada. I'd have a word with the management if I were you.

Winter would be great if it were about a month long instead of FOREVER.

It's cute until your eyes freeze.

Every day.

You wanna see some "lovely pictures of winter" I am sure there will be plenty when it is actually winter. Until then, in deference to those of us who live in places where winter turns everything into a grim, dark, icy, neverending hellscape y'all can wait.

That's one of the things I do, to combat the hopelessness; point my camera at something that looks pretty for a second and hope my fingers don't fall off.
