That was not the kind of cat houses I was hoping to see there....

Sigh. Still looking for the cat tree that allows my Kali to survey her neighborhood from on high, plotting her eventual take over. One that isn't an ugly ass carpet covered Petco special. Something stylish and sophisticated that befits an aspiring super villain.

My architect designed a 4400 sq ft cat house that the cats let me furnish and live in in exchange for food, water and cleaning up their poop.

Slarty, I was reading something the other day about "As seen on TV" products that actually work well, and one of those mentioned was a removable shelf thing for cats to sit on that you attach with suction cups to a window or sliding glass door. Pretty unobtrusive and and number of commenters said it handled their fat cats fine.

These are cool, but sadly not big enough for the cats' human pets.

It's clear the DHS designer has never owned a cat.

I don't think my cats would like any of those. We just bought a new cat tree that looks a bit like this; our bigger, older cat has been hanging out on the "indoors" portion, and our little, sturdy guy spends ALL day climbing the damn thing to the top and pretending he's the king.

None of these seem tall enough to full satisfy my cat.

(They are great looking, though!)

I bet all the cats are just thinking "All I wanted was a brown paper bag. Instead I've got this thing".

Not that kind of cat house

You make a lot of assumptions about the kind of cat house I think of when I think of cat houses, post title.

Oh, good, no Gehry. Probably would have looked like this.

Slarty Bartfast - how about the Lotus? My cat and I have been lusting over it for years. :)

Actually... Gehry's cardboard chairs would be perfect as a cat house. It would be destroyed in hours though.

a few of these seem to be feline strangulation devices.

Also, Armarkat makes the best cat trees.

Haus Panther has many stylish cat trees for your elegant feline. Check out this vintage cat house; it may or may not have been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, but it's still fancy.

At last report, all cats were sitting in the brown cardboard boxes these houses came in.

If it were constructed from hardy enough material it would make a great scratching post.

as a kitten, Cat The Cat commandeered a half built Lego box I was making and refused to stop sitting it even when it was obvious her full grown Maine Coon body could not fit in it anymore until one day it finally just broke apart.

She decided to sleep in the empty big blue Lego box instead. We figured small plastic bricks must smell like home.

I am not quite sure that these architects understand what cats are really like.

We ordered that Lotus cat tree a few years back for our cat, twice it got delivered damaged so we returned it and gave up. Customer service rep wasn't particularly pleasant so I didn't try a third time. Now he had the standard carpeted monstrosity, but he loves it so all good.
I wouldn't mind that concrete box one, would make a great side table.

That hulu hoops and string one is ugly and doesn't look like cats would enjoy it.

Our newly adopted cat has the run of the house. He has found a number of perches but apparently the safest and most reassuring place in the house is the - now battered - amazon book box that came last week and which he runs back to every time he gets a little startled. We have repaired it 4 times this week. It has always been too small (2 hardbacks) but he loves it. We are just about to let him have his first fresh air since we got him, so he may well be hiding in it in the next 15 minutes.

I have been placing furniture strategically for cat climbing for so many years that I'm not sure I remember how to arrange furniture any longer WITHOUT optimizing for cats.

My children get scolded for pushing certain chairs in all the way instead of leaving them at a slight angle, because the elderly cat needs a two-stage approach now to his favorite sleeping surfaces. They find this confusing as the rule only applies to certain chairs, and other chairs must be pushed in fully to exclude cats.

I love the coffee table slat one, I would buy that! (Well, maybe.)

I am not quite sure that these architects understand what cats are really like.

There are lots of them who don't seem clear on how humans work/move/live either.

Anyway, my cats wouldn't care about any of these. I probably need to get them one of those carpeted doohickeys now that I have a new one who actually has claws and can climb.

I was actually hoping for a feature on those people who build little cat-walks and shelves into their houses.
