Feh, the stuff I did at the boiler room in the east village back in college would not be postable to a family website.

Holy crap this is awkward. I love it!

I'm guess I'm too old to comprehend letting drunk assholes, holding drinks no less, near any equipment like that. Is this a thing?

I really, really hope they don't have cameras in that Boiler Room, Whelk. My memories are bad enough.

I thought 'Pose' was the best but then I almost shit myself with 'Assistant.'

Not what I needed before a wedding weekend with my awkward dancing...

This is the first time I've been tempted to say, "this is the best of the web?!?" Ah, that old chestnut.

I guess it's neat in that it... moves? The French one is the best for it's "oh I lost interest" aspect.

Accidents are almost shockingly uncommon, in my experience.

Yes, joseph, some people have different interests than you. This is awesome.

What I did last night? Er, played boardgames and gossiped about the local music scene with a couple of old bandmates until 1:00 AM?

So good. What does boiler room mean though? Is that the place behind the DJ booth?

phaedon: "I thought 'Pose' was the best but then I almost shit myself with 'Assistant.'"

Correction "AssistEnt"

Also - I think I'd prolly be hanging out with Joaquin from Her where all the nerds are standing and yawning (My guess is that guy is doing some IDM-y/mellow ambient glitch -- or he really really sucks).

Boiler Room is a site/series of events (apparently at different locations? I only know I check out the sets, now and then, but not too much about it)...

https://boilerroom.tv/

Always some of the best DJs/Electronic Musicians - some of the classic greats like Frankie Knuckles, along with some newer people like Daedelus, or Caribou, or Bonobo... Tons of great artists.

Speaking of - who the hell's the DJ playing in the "Acid" GIF? CUZ HAHAHA - He gives Guetta a run for the money.

Oh god! Russell Haswell has one - I can't wait to see what the audience is like on *that* one! LOL. I saw him at the Autechre show in, 2000 or 2001, IIRC. God damn that shit was ouch.

and the behind the DJ thing is kind of a gimmick of theirs (the more important thing is that they put all the shows online for free)

Personally, I liked Sniff, for the subtlety of the first act, followed by the forthrightness of the second act. I think I'm going to be seeing Cheese in my nightmares, though.

joseph conrad is fully awesome: "I guess it's neat in that it... moves?"

No, what's neat is that they're funny.

Yeah, they are in different places. I've had to opportunity to go to some in LA, but my snooty friends have said it's not as fun here.

I should ignore my snooty friends more often.

I thought so too, at first, until I realized that you have to focus on a specific person(s) in each clip to see the funny thing happen. And often it's a person in the periphery, so it makes the action harder to spot. (The caption at the bottom sometimes helps.)

I mean I've seen others do it, like Girl Talk. Just figured it was the new way to DJ a show. The camera makes sense from a "who the fuck messed with my stuff" point-of-view.

Can't we just collect enough of these that we accept them as a completely universal part of the human experience and then go back to being unselfconscious?

There's always, always, always a bunch of drunk people in or behind the DJ booth at EDM shows. Except for big festivals and superclubs, you can generally just walk up to the dj and say hi, and most DJs have a fairly big retinue of friends/hangers-on that wander in and out of the booth at will, in addition to club regulars that know the promoter and stuff.

I got thrown out of the DJ booth in Ibiza when Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs was playing.. not because of anything I did, but because my friend was way drunk and dancing uncomfortably close to him, so they just asked everyone to leave. Definitely would have made for an awkward gif, though.
