When you were a kid, maybe you played with the spring doorstop. I know I did. Maybe you play with it now. I know I do. Anyway, here's The Electric Spring Doorstop, which is, as the kids say, totally awesome.

I have a video of my eldest playing with one of these for hours when we visited my sister. I also have a full soundproof recording studio in my basement with I/o devices and monitors, etc. In other words, flapjax, my kids thank you for this latest addition to the music room.

They had me the moment they showed the cable being plugged into the spring housing.

Unfortunately, from their website:

"Due to our videos going unexpectedly viral, we have received many requests for pricing. We are scrambling to figure out a way to make these at a good price."

Soooo . . . . . not really available yet. :(

Aww. Well, in the meantime, there's this.

This is such a good idea! How hard would it be to make this yourself? I'd love to plug one into some crazy reverb and delay pedals and just drone out.

Clearly fake, they've used effects on the voice.

Basically you want to do this and stick it to the end of the doorstop (so, not hard).

I don't play with them, but my cat does and it's the worst. Unlike a cat rustling a plastic bag in the middle of the night, you can't just get up and remove this when it's annoying.

What, only ONE doorstop? Bah!

Warnings: self link; horrible quality video; high quality audio of horrible sounds

My mother yelled at me for playing with these so many times. It was so soothing to be the one doing it, though. I don't know why.

My friends cats would go bonkers over this. And I would play with it for hours on end.

I can't believe you guys haven't heard of solid doorstops. Your cats will hate you, but at least you'll be able to get some sleep.

Your toes will hate you if you ever walk into one of those hazards in the dark.

Guys, so I'm a couple of days late to the party here but if you want one right now all it takes is a mono 1/4" jack, a capped length of tube (looks like they used a 35mm film can here) some epoxy and one of those piezoelectric speakers from a talking x-mas card. And the boinginator, obviously. Maybe a couple of bolts. Just make sure that the piezo piece is very close to, or better yet, connected right to the thing.
