Apparently "People like to watch and be watched...as long as it's done in a non-tacky way." Having sex at a giant dildo sale. How could that possibly be tacky?

Well, his idea for doing it in a shadowed theatre instead of just throwing a Serta into the middle of the sales floor is a bid toward good taste and anonymity. I wouldn't want to do it, but for those shy folk with voyeurism fantasies, I could see how it would appeal. What I want to know is what they're going to do with the taped sessions after the expo is over. Maybe this is just a ploy to get cheap/free talent for mass-marketed pornography? posted by headspace at 9:19 AM on February 3, 2002
I agree. What a ridiculous idea.
It being tacky, that is. posted by dfowler at 9:20 AM on February 3, 2002
Here's Sexpo. Looks to have been running acouple of years, making the tour of Oz cities. Especially Perth. They're so far away, you know. It now "lays claim to being the most popular exhibition in Australia (in square meter terms)". posted by dhartung at 9:30 AM on February 3, 2002
Frankly, I think this is less tacky than your typical swingers club found in every major city in America and abroad. It sounds like a tasteful representation for those who wish to exhibit and those who wish to watch imho. posted by gloege at 9:38 AM on February 3, 2002
It's not an embarassing thing..but it can turn into one if they stop having sex all the time :) I think it's better for them to run a looped tape. posted by elpapacito at 10:30 AM on February 3, 2002

Also, it won't be tacky if they use plenty of lubricant.
Okay, I'm done. posted by kfury at 10:42 AM on February 3, 2002
Sure. You're done. But what about me. posted by treywhit at 12:31 PM on February 3, 2002
I don't see anything wrong with this.
I'm much more likely to approve of people having sex in public (semi-public, more accurately) than I am to approve of boxing, "professional" wrestling, Ultimate Fighting, and any other public displays of gratuitous violence.
I guess my flower-child roots are showing. posted by mr_crash_davis at 1:18 PM on February 3, 2002

A follow-up -- everyone wants a piece of the action. Maybe they should reverse the setup - 4000 people rooting, and a handful watching from the other side... posted by robcorr at 8:23 PM on February 3, 2002
robcorr: Funny, in America, the people watching would be the ones rooting. Which to us means "cheering". posted by dhartung at 10:13 PM on February 3, 2002
