My wife and I stayed at the Shah Abbas hotel last year when we were visiting Iran. A truly magnificent hotel that was once a caravanaserai. We didn't see many jaunty jackets, although the people staying there seemed to be pretty fashionable, especially taking into account Iran's Islamic modesty prohibitions on dress.

I understand now. This sort of thing is why the fashions of the 70s didn't seem that awful at the time.
