Techno Remix Ten Hour Version

This is my new favorite thing ever for the next couple of days! I'm not sure anything other than looping could improve the original, but that Techno mix is good.

Kid, I hate to break this to you at such a young age, but you may have just reached the pinnacle of coolness with that Devo head-snap to the heavens. It's all downhill from here, dude.

Techno Remix Ten Hour Version

You have got to be kidding me.

Back in my day, there used to be subtle joke escalation. You'd take it a little bit to the next level, and then the next, and at some point you'd be like, whelp, I guess that went a little bit too far. But hah hah, funny.

These days on the internet, it's 0 to 100 in 2 seconds. "Hey, let me take your six second funny thing and turn it into a 10 hour techno remix!"

There's nowhere to go after that, unless it's like a 100 hour techno remix.

This is the first I saw of this. I must be out of the loop. I liked it.

It's cute but that kid is going to grow up to be beardy and Norwegian and banging on defunct kitchen appliances and he won't have anywhere to turn except Hurra Torpedo.

We might be reaching peak remix culture, by the way. Someone injects less than 60 seconds of original (and funny) content into the internet meme-stream, and it takes about two days until it's been mashed up with everything else, remixed, parodied, and Hitler has reacted to it.

I kind of love it, but I wonder how much further it can go. Then I watch the goatified remix, and I go "Oh, yeah, that".

Man what I learned from that tumblr is that there are an awful lot of anime series with important third characters that mean nothing to me. Who are any of these characters?
posted by Naib at 4:06 AM on November 10, 2014 [1 favorite]

Who are any of these characters?

Well, Klinger is a Corporal who acts as the unit's secretary, a malingerer who's otherwise exceptionally good at his job and can get away with odd behavior, and Pierce is an Army surgeon known for his anti-authority streak. Colonel Potter is the avuncular yet no-nonsense commander of the field hospital. They've all been gender-flipped, because Tumblr.

joakim ziegler, I think it's important to remember the distinction between "Things culture does" and "Things some high schooler does." On the internet, no one knows you're a dog, or 15.

I'm pontificating here because I don't actually *know* anyone in high school. But, i imagine that remixing things is just something a tech-savvy post-millenial digital native does in their spare time. It's more surprising to me that there aren't already 10 times as many hour long hitler reaction remixes of this, because, just imagine how many dang bored high schoolers there are out there.

So, beware of reacting to something as if its culturally pervasive instead of significant among 15-year-olds. now excuse me as I go back to /r/malefashionadvice and get bent out of shape when a 15-year-old tells me I'm a pleb because my pants are cuffed instead of stacked

Otoh, I just heard from an avid young tumblr user that Tumblr was almost over now due to Yahoo's advt insertions and not that much fun anymore so she was moving away to find/found the next cool place to hangout and giggle. Yeah, she's just going to build her own platform now... and that strikes me as the next real trend, kinda like Metafilter and Mlkshk (and maybe Ello but I'm old and what do I know or recall clearly...) - just places where its community and hanging out and posting shit to point and laugh at or debate earnestly, and where you're not the product anymore. (Insert obligatory blue_beetle reference here)

For better or worse I think we've got quite a ways to go before we peak in this regard.

What is so weird about that goatified remix is that it feels like a legitimate escalation of the meme. It seems to play by the rules. You have to give it props while being simultaneously a little bit disappointed in the human race.

I just played that with my three year old daughter sitting on my lap, and she had a look of incredulity on her face that I've never seen before. And she laughs her head off at Pengu in the weirdest spots.
