So I guess the world’s most obscure band has a publicist.

In my music-related job of the past 20 years, I have tended to receive a multitude of annoying press releases -- but this one raised even my hackles. I couldn't find a link to it anywhere online (yet), aside from a Twitter posting, so I paste it below in its full glory. Don't judge them because of their marketing (or do).

WORLD'S MOST OBSCURE BAND CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF OBSCURITY

Still Obscure After All These Years

BALTIMORE, MD – November 13, 2014 - Esquimaux (pronounced 'eskimo') celebrates 10 years of obscurity this month on the anniversary their first self-titled EP. In recognition of this achievement, Esquimaux has decidedly remained obscure by not releasing any new music since 2009 and by stubbornly keeping their name spelled in the French plural form instead of the easier to search and spell phonetic form of 'eskimo'.

"Whenever people heard us on the radio they wouldn't be able to search online to find our music," says Esquimaux band member and producer James Sajor. "Unless the DJ spelled our name for them."

Streaming services like Spotify and Pandora haven't helped much to pull the band out of obscurity, despite clearly communicating the correct spelling of the band's name, mostly because their music is only recommended when other lesser obscure bands are being played. That, and it's not like those services actually pay the artists enough money for them to keep producing new music.

Besides the aforementioned services, Esquimaux's music can also be found on iTunes here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/esquimaux/id58069257

A music video for the band is barely seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLAXwDM7bW4

About Esquimaux:
Esquimaux is Heather Brown Dodge, Graham Dodge & James Sajor. The trio started cutting their musical teeth at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, CA in 2004 with various guest bandmates. They made their radio debut that year with their self-titled EP on Nic Harcourt's 'Morning Becomes Eclectic'. Their first full-length record, "perfecto!" (2005), features guests Brian Gibson (Lightning Bolt) and Gary Jules. In 2007, Esquimaux recorded the first of 2 sister EPs, "Tiger" and "Wolf". The first EP, "Tiger" (2008), was recorded by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Foo Fighters) in Chicago and is an analog study. "Tiger" also features the addition of drummer Eric Stock (Stroke 9). The second EP, "Wolf" (2009), was recorded at the band members' homes and is a digital study. Also released in 2009, was a single called "Gleaming The Truth" with Eric Stock on drums again, and mastered by Esquimaux veteran Stephen Marsh (Los Lobos, The Donnas). This isn't usually how metafilter works. There's no page to link to?

As someone who has both been on the receiving end of press releases and the sending end of press releases, I have seen worse. And I hope they get some juice out of it. Because laboring in obscurity for 10 years cannot be all that much fun.

Also, the publicist is one of the bandmembers. Which I especially appreciate.
