The minimalistic, fast-paced browser roguelike Return to Tolagal now has a full desktop sequel, The Depths of Tolagal!

I only wish the control system for this game was a bit more fluid. When I play return I feel like I'm playing a game using vim:
"Switch to attack mode, then attack"
"Switch to look mode, then look"
"Activate shield"

So what separates this from the now-crowded roguelike pack? I watched the long trailer, but I am having some difficulty seeing "an emphasis on tactical combat".

A simple game that could be made immensely better by changing shield-up and power attack into toggles, instead of having to activate them every turn. Right now every attack takes 2-3 clicks instead of one. Gets tedious real fast.

Also you can do everything with the keyboard except for looking? Why?

It feels kind of like a more primitive and clumsy version of Pixel Dungeons.

Taking a toggle to bring the shield or sword up to "power" attack is the tactical bit: it forces you economize movements and gives you challenges tied to calculations.

That said, I got to level 5, 184 monsters killed, and got bored.

Oh, I see! It's actually beatable. The bottom level is always the same and if you beat the boss, it's over.

So I beat the game with 933 points, 1049 moves. Can anyone do it faster?
